PRIMARY PURPOSE: Driver is responsible for the efficient, reliable and safe operation and basic maintenance of a nine-passenger vehicle over an assigned route.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification
High School Diploma or equivalent (ex: GED) Maintain a minimum of a Class "C" drivers' license issued by the State of Texas Must possess and maintain and acceptable driving record Obtain and maintain a current CPR certification Pass a medical evaluation and maintain medical qualifications throughout employment Participate in and pass pre-employment post-offer, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and return- to-duty drug and or alcohol testing Meet all state (TEA) qualifications for school bus drivers Must be eligible for CDL Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing in English, Bilingual English/Spanish a plus Preferred Experience:
Prior experience working with children in an educational setting Prior experience as a School Bus Monitor MAJOR REPONSIBILIES AND DUTIES:
Operates a vehicle safely and efficiently transports pupils to and from school and related activities. Maintains a valid Texas Driver's License and has it in their possession at all times while on the job. Accessible to dispatcher or supervisor for daily assignments. Assumes responsibility of the vehicle and passengers while the vehicle is in route and is responsible for the safety and conduct of those transported. Assists and instructs pupils in proper loading and unloading procedures. Operates according to assigned schedules and routes and does not make unauthorized stops unless approved by Dispatch or Supervisor. Renders assistance, if needed, when the vehicle breaks down or is involved in an accident, and cooperates in any investigations. Operates a two way radio to maintain communication to and from Dispatcher's office. Makes neat, legible and accurate transportation records as required. Reports discipline problems to the Transportation Supervisor and to the Principal. Transports only authorized students and adult sponsors. Reports maintenance problems to maintenance foreman in a timely manner. Maintains discipline and control of students on the vehicle. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required. Must actively seek CDL licensure Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Operate multi passenger vehicle; two-way radio; global positioning system (GPS); safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher
Posture:
Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling
Motion:
Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching
Lifting:
Limited light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) on a daily basis
Environment:
Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours
Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress
