Inside Talent
Job Description
Our client is at the forefront of delivering innovative power solutions, built on a foundation of safety, integrity, and customer focus. As they continue to grow and scale, they are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who is not only technically strong but also a force multiplier - someone who elevates the performance of the entire team through mentorship, process improvement, and scalable engineering solutions across a diverse product portfolio.
This position will play a critical role in developing accurate, well-defined engineering solutions for complex customer requests, ensuring that high-value custom projects move smoothly through the quoting and order process. The Senior Electrical Engineer will work closely with Sales, Applications, Engineering, and Manufacturing to translate unique customer requirements into feasible, manufacturable designs while maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and standardization.
The company operates from a cutting-edge headquarters in Faribault, MN, partially powered by a solar- and wind-supported microgrid, with additional facilities across the U.S. and Canada.
Why Join? Be a key technical resource for complex, high-value customer projects that require deep electrical expertise and cross-functional collaboration. Improve the accuracy and efficiency of the custom quoting process, helping the organization scale without increasing lead times or engineering bottlenecks. Work on a wide range of power distribution products, from switchgear and load banks to docking stations and battery storage solutions. Core Values
We are looking for people who believe in guiding principles and values such as:
Safety
- Everyone should leave facilities in the same or better condition than when they arrived. Integrity
- Honesty, transparency, and a commitment to doing what's right. Customer focus
- Relentless focus on customers and their success. Right with speed
- Making thoughtful decisions quickly and executing them with purpose. Play for each other
- Teamwork, showing up for one another, and achieving greatness together. Champion change
- Adapting and improving to thrive in a dynamic environment. Enjoy the journey
- Creating an environment where team members feel appreciated and can have fun along the way. In This Role, You Will:
Design custom power distribution equipment following UL 1008, UL 508, UL 891, and UL 1558 standards. Support and lead the custom quoting and order process, ensuring technical feasibility and compliance with listings, codes, and customer specifications. Provide electrical engineering expertise across a wide range of products, ensuring custom designs align with best practices and manufacturability. Refine and document quoting processes to improve efficiency and reduce engineering cycle time for custom orders. Collaborate with Sales, application engineers, and Manufacturing to bridge the gap between customer requirements and practical, buildable solutions. Identify common customizations and work toward streamlining configurations to improve quoting speed and accuracy. Drive impact beyond individual contributions by enabling others to move faster, make better decisions, and deliver higher-quality work. Act as a technical mentor to engineers and sales team members, improving internal understanding of complex power distribution solutions. Continuously improve processes to reduce rework, enhance design efficiency, and improve order accuracy. Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 7+ years of experience in electrical system design, power distribution, and quoting/order support for custom-engineered products. Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, EPlan, or similar software. Ability to interpret customer specifications and site requirements to create accurate solutions. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to balance customization with standardization. Experience defining electrical specifications and selecting components for power distribution offerings (switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, generators). Experience creating technical documentation to support manufacturing, functional testing, certification testing, and customer requests. Ability to specify safe and effective testing practices for powered prototypes. Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and commitment to design accuracy. Initiative and curiosity to explore new technologies and improve processes. Understanding of electrical design best practices, including safety, manufacturability, and compliance with codes and standards. Ability to identify inefficiencies and drive continuous improvement in workflows and documentation. Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment. Additional Qualifications:
Experience improving engineering efficiency through automation, modularization, or standardization. ERP, PLM, and Engineering Vault experience for managing design documentation and BOMs. NFPA 70E Certification or experience with medium-voltage systems. Familiarity with UL 1008, UL 508, UL 891, and UL 1558 standards. Project management experience leading cross-functional teams. Leadership skills with proven ability to mentor engineers and collaborate across departments. Experience with continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen, process audits, design standardization). Familiarity with design for reliability, testability, and manufacturability (DFM). Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions in design or production. Interest in emerging technologies in power distribution, energy storage, or smart grid systems. Proven ability to act as a technical multiplier through reusable tools, documentation, or mentoring. Experience creating frameworks, templates, or automations that improve consistency and reduce repetitive work.
