Description
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) supports students' access to education by providing physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. In a school setting, the PTA assists in implementing therapy plans to help students improve mobility, strength, balance, and functional skills needed for participation in the classroom and school activities. Responsibilities include working with students individually or in small groups, monitoring progress, maintaining documentation, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and school staff to support each student's individualized education program (IEP).
Requirements
Key Responsibilities Implement physical therapy activities and interventions as outlined in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist. Support students in improving gross motor skills, strength, balance, coordination, and mobility for classroom and school participation. Assist with the use, fitting, and care of adaptive equipment, mobility devices, and classroom supports. Work with students individually or in small groups to practice functional skills needed for school activities. Collect data and document student progress toward IEP goals, reporting observations to the supervising Physical Therapist. Collaborate with teachers, paraeducators, and other school staff to integrate therapy strategies into the daily school environment. Ensure safe practices for students during therapy sessions and school activities. Qualifications Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program. Current state licensure or certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Experience working with children or in an educational setting is preferred. Knowledge of therapeutic techniques, adaptive equipment, and mobility supports. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with students and staff. Ability to follow treatment plans and collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team.
