This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
As an Automation Software Standards Architect, you will shape the future of GM's manufacturing systems by developing and maintaining automation software standards that drive innovation, safety, and efficiency. You'll be at the forefront of GM's transformation toward an all-electric future, architecting solutions that enable the production of best-in-class vehicles while supporting our vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
Define and drive the strategic direction for Software Automation Architecture to transform manufacturing operations.
Develop, maintain, and continuously update the Software Automation Roadmap aligned with enterprise goals.
Architect vendor-agnostic automation solutions and lead proof-of-concept deployments.
Lead the development and testing for GCCS2 releases.
Maintain and update Blockpoint for existing and new programs.
Contribute to the development and enhancement of e-tools.
Ensure compliance with GM safety standards (gDHS, GWSS) across all solutions.
Engage collaboratively with Regional and Global Standards teams to support the advancement of new developments.
Evaluate and validate emerging technologies for integration into manufacturing environments.
Promote standardized solutions across projects and programs (e.g., Global Controls Council, TechSummit rollouts, supplier technology reviews)
Lead proof-of-concept and pilot deployments in labs and GM manufacturing facilities.
Support software applications as an SME and provide critical downtime support as needed.
Mentor team members and support supplier development and e-tool enhancements.
Champion change management and foster a collaborative, inclusive culture.
Track and report performance metrics and contribute to continuous improvement.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related.
10+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, including launch execution, design/build, and project management.
Strong understanding of vehicle manufacturing processes (GVDP) and standardized ME practices.
Proven ability to evaluate the technical and commercial viability of solutions.
Exceptional collaboration, communication, and negotiation skills.
Highly adaptable to evolving tools, processes, and organizational changes.
Proactive in learning new technologies and driving innovation.
Strong planning, organization, and strategic decision-making capabilities.
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Master's or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering.
Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Agentic AI.
Record of patents, defensive publications, or inventions.
Active involvement in external professional organizations.
Demonstrated leadership in technical innovation and standardization.
Deep expertise in GM Automation Standards, including GCCH and GCCS.
