Job Title: Sand Material Process Development ManagerJob Description
As a Sand Material Process Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in developing new material sources and translating existing materials into new applications. Utilizing your technical expertise in materials, glass science, mineral processing, or chemical engineering, you will meet new market and application demands.
Responsibilities
Lead process improvement projects on mineral purification processes with cross-functional teams and external validation partners.
Conduct IP research and determine customer requirements through voice of customer methods.
Perform feasibility testing, prototyping, gauge development, pilot testing, cost analysis, and scale-up projects.
Manage projects efficiently through planning, budgeting, time management, resource allocation, and risk management.
Generate intellectual properties such as patents, publications, and internal reports.
Support commercial and manufacturing teams.
Develop new processes for high purity sand and tungsten for the fused quartz business.
Apply Six Sigma methodology and use statistical, surface, and materials characterization tools for process improvement, failure analysis, and troubleshooting.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Material Science, Glass Science, Mineral Processing, Geology, or Chemical Engineering.
5+ years of hands-on experience within the geological, glass, or quartz industries.
Managerial experience.
Proficiency in statistical design and analysis of experimental data, including design of experiment and hypothesis testing.
Product management experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with statistical software such as Minitab.
Previous lab experience.
Expertise in sand beneficiation, hot chlorination, calcination, and other mineral processing methods.
Familiarity with processing of refractory metals, including sintering and machining.
Experience designing equipment for solids processing.
Understanding of batch and continuous processes.
Experience with quartz fusion processes including electric fusion, arc fusion, and flame fusion or vapor deposition.
Mechanical and thermal design modeling using SolidWorks.
Six Sigma training and certifications.
Work Environment
This role involves working in an office attached to a lab and manufacturing facility. The individual will spend 60% of their time in a lab and 40% in a pilot production plant. They will split their time between sand and quartz locations, focusing on creating a new R&D process for sand purification.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $160000.00 - $170000.00/yr.
