Internships at the First Coast YMCA allow individuals to collaborate with senior leadership, participate in professional development, and gain hands-on experience while exploring potential career paths. Our Healthy Living Internships are geared toward students pursuing a degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Public Health, Health Science, and Lifestyle Medicine.
You will be committed to spending your time exploring your own strengths and areas for growth, setting and accomplishing goals, learning skills that will help you to be successful in the work area you choose, and gaining real experience at a work site.
During your work experience, you will receive ongoing training experiences and support through your own personal YMCA coach. You will also plan and participate in a service project alongside other interns.
As a healthy living intern, the ultimate goal is to build relationships among community members and partners. Through this internship there will be an opportunity to shadow Chronic Disease Programs, Personal Training, scheduling and completing onboarding appointments, learn daily activities of a wellness experience maker (cleaning/member engagement), attend staff meetings, Expos/Health Fairs, Healthy Aging Events, learn how to manage group exercise, experience a rotation of diverse locations,
Qualifications and Desired skills: Good organizational and execution skills, focus on detail Strong team player who can work independently Enjoys collaborating and takes directions from other teammates High level of written and oral communication Comfortable with public speaking and facilitation Excellent customer service required - friendly, personable, helpful, patient, and professional Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards and pass drug test Must complete onboarding trainings prior to internship in a timely manner Responsibilities and Duties:
Marketing Healthy Living initiatives- create material to highlight our many healthy living programs. Assist Brooks Rehab team with Adaptive Program. Create, Lead, and Assist Healthy Aging Events with Healthy Aging Coordinator Create, Lead, and Assist Wellness Challenges with Healthy Living Director Assist with Group Exercise Procedures and Protocols with Healthy Living Director Assist with Chronic Disease Programs with Healthy Living Director/Facilitator Other job duties as assigned.
Interns who apply for the YMCA Internship will learn all the necessary skills to provide them with the tools and resources to connect organizations for better membership engagement and services.

Hours and Days:
Depending on the length of semester interns are expected to work between 15-20 hours per week on programs. The bulk of the day (9am-5pm, Monday-Friday) with some evening & weekend program events/meetings.
Intern candidates who agree to participate in YMCA internships assume responsibilities for learning about the nature of the work of the YMCA, its aims, policies and procedures. While actively associated with the YMCA of Florida's First Coast, he/she agrees to exhibit our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of work as an intern with the YMCA and abide by all YMCA policies, rules and procedures. Additionally, the intern agrees to fulfill all assigned tasks to the best of his/her ability, making no significant changes in the established schedule without prior knowledge of the YMCA and partnering organization
