A thriving construction company is seeking a Fabrication Steel Estimator to join its growing team in St. Louis. This is a high-impact, client-facing role responsible for managing the full estimating lifecycle of steel fabrication and installation projects, from interpreting drawings and performing detailed takeoffs to vendor coordination and post-bid follow-ups. The ideal candidate is experienced, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where communication, accuracy, and accountability are essential.
Fabrication Steel Estimator Responsibilities: Review construction documents and specifications to perform material takeoffs for miscellaneous metals Estimate material, labor, and equipment costs for fabrication and installation projects Obtain and evaluate vendor pricing, ensuring favorable terms and lead times Prepare bid proposals and budgets in collaboration with project managers and the fabrication team Lead pre-bid strategy discussions and follow up post-bid to assess outcomes Manage and organize multiple bids and active projects simultaneously Assist project managers with change orders, budgets, and project reviews Use estimating software and tools like BlueBeam to prepare accurate quotes and documentation Support internal meetings and cost evaluations for lessons learned on completed projects Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and internal departments Fabrication Steel Estimator
Requirements:
Minimum 3+ years of experience in estimating steel fabrication and/or installation projects Strong knowledge of steel materials, shop labor, and fabrication processes Proven ability to read and interpret construction documents and structural drawings Experience completing takeoffs, estimating labor/material costs, and compiling bid packages Excellent verbal communication skills and professional client-facing demeanor Self-starter with strong time management skills; capable of handling multiple deadlines Proficient with Microsoft Office and estimating software Tekla PowerFab and BlueBeam experience a major plus High school diploma required; college degree preferred but not required Must be local to the St. Louis area and able to work onsite full-time Experience with large-scale projects is a plus Background in both fabrication and steel installation is preferred Experience training or mentoring junior estimators Benefits:
