Makerspace Specialist
Miami University seeks a Makerspace Specialist to help shape the future of hands-on learning at King Library. Our third-floor Makerspace is a vibrant hub where creativity meets technology. Since opening in 2019, this collaborative learning environment has fostered maker-centered education through state-of-the-art equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters, sewing and embroidery machines, and multimedia production studios. This is a full-time temporary position with a one-year appointment. This role will work directly with users; manage cutting-edge technology; and support an innovative space that brings together students, faculty, and community members from across disciplines. You will be instrumental in advancing experiential learning while facilitating the transdisciplinary collaboration that makes our Makerspace a cornerstone of campus innovation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: staff the Makerspace service point, serving as the primary point of contact for patron inquiries and technical assistance; assist in the continued development and staffing of events and programs hosted by the department; provide tours of the Makerspace; perform opening and closing procedures; assist in training staff, student workers, and patrons on in-house technology and equipment; co-manage and troubleshoot all Makerspace equipmentkeeping technology current and fully functional, coordinating repairs and maintenance schedules, and monitoring usage and performance metrics; maintain and organize supplies and materials; conduct regular inventory assessments, ensure workspace cleanliness and compliance with safety and health procedures for safe operation of Makerspace; perform additional duties as apparent or assigned. Minimum qualifications: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university; strong customer service orientation with at least one year in a customer service role. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: understanding of emerging technology, education, and creating collaborative learning environments; detail-oriented and comfortable working with a wide range of technologies.
