The Newport News Sheriff's Office has an immediate opening for an experienced, dedicated Maintenance Technician. The Sheriff's Office operates two jail facilities housing over 500 inmates.
The Maintenance Technician will assist the Sheriff's Office with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and building maintenance functions.
Applicants must have experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and building maintenance functions.
The applicant must be capable of performing general mechanical and maintenance duties. The position requires general and specific knowledge of maintenance functions with an emphasis on plumbing and electrical work. Applicants must be capable of working in a correction's setting. The position is a fulltime position.
Job Requirements Requires a considerable amount of physical activity, including extended periods of sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and climbing. Work is performed indoors, outdoors and in confined spaces. Must be able to push frequently, lift and carry equipment, supplies and other materials weighing up to 50 pounds and to occasionally push, pull, lift and carry equipment, supplies and materials up to 75 lbs. Must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to use arms and hands to reach, finger, feel, grasp and to handle tools and equipment utilized in maintenance and repair activities.
