Are you someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in keeping landscapes looking great, and isn't afraid to get your hands dirty? Amherst County is looking for a
full-time Grounds Technician
to help maintain and improve the beautiful public spaces that our community depends on.
What You'll Be Doing: As a Grounds Technician, you'll play a hands-on role in maintaining County grounds, facilities, and signage. You'll operate a variety of motorized equipment-from weed eaters and chainsaws to trucks, mowers, and tractors-to keep our parks and public areas in top shape. Typical duties include:
Mowing grass and trimming shrubbery Edging sidewalks and removing trash/debris Landscaping and planting Installing and maintaining road and street signs Performing minor preventive maintenance on equipment Assisting with general building and grounds repairs Supporting emergency operations (like snow removal, storm cleanup, etc.) Ensuring safety standards are followed at all times Keeping restrooms clean and functional You'll also perform basic calculations for chemical and material application (like mulch, concrete, or asphalt), and help complete work orders and other documentation.
What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent Prior experience in grounds maintenance is preferred Strong working knowledge of hand and power tools Ability to safely perform manual labor, including lifting up to 80 lbs Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions Reliable, punctual, and able to follow written and verbal instructions This is an
essential position , which means you may occasionally work weekends, holidays, or respond to emergency events. But you'll also be making a real, visible difference in our community every day.
