SUMMARY
1. Certified School Nurse Responsibilities include the planning, implementation and supervision of state-mandated school health services for all students within the North & South Academies. The CSN will work in conjunction with non-certified health staff.
2. RN with a current PA Registered Nurse License, BSN degree in Nursing committed to complete a PDE certification program to obtain a school nurse certification.
3. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Responsible for provision of applied nursing services to students consistent with licensure. The LPN will implement school nursing services under the direction of the Certified School Nurse/RN.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of the CSN include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
1. Incorporates and supervises state-mandated school health services and programs to meet the needs of exceptional students.
2. Plans and presents staff in-services on special health issues.
3. Coordinates and supervises the maintenance of student health records.
4. Responsible for coordination of health services to behavioral health programs (partial hospitalization, etc.)
5. Ability to collaborate with behavioral health staff in implement mental health services.
6. Ability to work closely with psychiatrists and other medical personnel as needed.
7. Ability to conduct student lessons/parent instruction on health-related topics (i.e., Hygiene, medication management, etc.).
8. Orders and maintains first aid supplies for all classrooms.
9. Provides on-going consultation for community agencies and school district staff working with exceptional students.
10. Develop individual medical management plans for students with multiple and/or complex health needs.
11. Assists in finding appropriate medical support services required to have students remain in school (i.e., catheterization, blood sugar monitoring, etc.
12. Participate in meetings related to student health issues and concerns.
13. Develop protocols to securely maintain, distribute and administer physician prescribed medications to students in compliance with current professional standards.
14. Administers medications per physician orders. Completes physician ordered procedures (i.e., tracheotomy care, suctioning, gastrostomy care, etc.)
15. Provides health-related services for students (i.e., First aid, CPR, etc.).
16. Stays abreast of current trends/practices, legal issues, and requirements of school health services.
17. Participate in staff development activities.
18. Provides directions for staff on medical related issues of specific students.
19. Assists in instructing other staff to provide medical intervention in emergency and non-emergency situations.
20. Provide emergency medical assistance to staff as may be required.
21. Assuming any other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor, Pupil Services or his/her designee.
22. Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or his/her designee.

The CSN/RN will ensure that state mandated school health services are offered as required. The CSN will work in conjunction with LPN and/or non-certified RN in completing state mandated screenings as per the PA Dept. of Health Division of School Health School Health Regulations.) QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified School Nurse/RN (CSN/RN) Current PA Registered Nurse License Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) PA School Nurse Certification or emergency certification with ongoing course work Previous experience working with students with learning disabilities, social-emotional/behavioral disorders, and/or mental health mental disorders preferred. Current Adult/Pediatric CPR/AED certification. Knowledge Child Abuse Law, HIPPA and FERPA regulations. Ability to follow and provide written and oral instructions. Outstanding Communication, organizational and liaison skills. Ability to acquire and maintain Crisis Management certification (QBS, etc.) Required State and Federal Clearances REASONING ABILITY:
Must be able to develop and foster positive collegial relationships with all constituencies. Work effectively as a member of a team. Be cooperative, and service oriented with a positive attitude TRAVEL
Moderate travel required. Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to/from work. QUALIFICATIONS
