Save Job

RIFF, a *volunteer-run* music news publication, is one of the largest music news publications in the SF Bay Area, with 120,000 readers monthly. We also dip our toes into the Los Angeles and Portland, Ore. music scene. We're searching for *volunteer*

album reviews

and

concert coverage

editors to help stay on top of album releases, communicate with publicists and promoters, lead writers and help out with reviewing albums and concerts. Together, these roles help shape our direction and help our crew become better journalists while being the first to listen to a bunch of great (and some less than great) music. You can also review concerts as well, especially if you're based in the Bay Area, Portland, or Los Angeles. There are lots of possibilities. Generally, the best person for these volunteer positions would be someone with writing and editing experience, as well as an eclectic taste in music. You'll be supported by other editors. You'll build relationships with the people who work for local concert promoters and publicists throughout the country. As a team of news journalists, we care a lot about integrity. We've led coverage of the music industry's and Bay Area's response to the pandemic and social justice issues. The Portland arts scene is growing and we're looking to tell its stories. It's also a lot of fun. We're a staff of about 40 volunteers who work closely together on deadline. If you have the passion to learn, you don't need to have a music journalism background. We can teach you! But you should enjoy communication with our staff and others. Your experience: You're a college senior or done with school, with: Journalism experience or loved English lit Experience writing or editing on deadline Familiar with various types of music or want to learn Check out RIFFmagazine.com.
