The Opportunity: The Seed Program provides accurate, timely and high-quality seed analysis and certification services while continually striving for improvements in methods and technologies to assure success for the program and its seed industry stakeholders. WSDA Seed Program is a unit within the Commodity Inspection Division that conducts pre-harvest seed field inspections and laboratory seed testing of agricultural, vegetable, native plants, rangeland grasses and flower seeds grown under the certification and phytosanitary programs. The program is responsible for seed certification, seed testing, phytosanitary visual seed inspection, seed inspection and official seed sampling as well as the program is the state seed regulatory agent. Additionally, the program monitors two seed quarantines to assist producers to replicate disease and pest free commodities.
For the laboratory support role, this position will sanitize dishes for the viability work area, keep all laboratory supplies filled, notify the area lead or supervisor on low supply inventory, file seed samples and pre-pick samples of inert material. This position will utilize knowledge to breakdown samples to the appropriate working sample size by crop and requested service or test. There is industry outreach opportunities and stakeholder interactions necessary to clarify seed test requests or clarify field applications prior to accepting into the program for services. Travel within the state may be necessary to attend regional and local industry meetings and represent the Seed Program and may include overnight accommodations. Important Notes

Include, but not limited to: Administration: Read, interpret, comprehend and follow instructions and methodology in policies, procedures and rules. Accurately document the data for each sample that arrives into Pure Harvest in a timely manner. Process additional test requested. Update additional test information into Pure Harvest database, including billing information, certification information and if any special instructions are specified for the sample. Laboratory Accurately checking samples into the seed lab. Cross reference pre-assigned lab numbers and attachments. Separate samples by rush and non-rush. Ensure all dividers, blowers, scales, countertops, and seed handling equipment are clean and free of anything that could cause cross contamination. Maintain a clean environment. Mix, divide, and weigh samples into unbiased sub-samples according to applicable rules and testing criteria. Verify equipment calibration. Record equipment calibration. Utilize specialized seed laboratory software. Follow established procedures, rules and regulations. Monitor all chemical storage inventory. Monitor lab check-in and breakdown. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.
Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
Vacation (Annual Leave) Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.
Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment.
Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
As provided in , an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and/or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position. Vacation leave accrual rates may only be accelerated using the rates established WAC 357-31-165.
Note:
Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for
exempt
employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so. However, agencies are required to adhere to the applicable RCWs pertaining holidays and leave.
Military Leave Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year.
Bereavement Leave Most employees whose family member or household member dies, or for loss of pregnancy, are entitled to five (5) days of paid bereavement leave. In addition, the employer may approve other available leave types for the purpose of bereavement leave.
