The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on 62nd Street (Lower and Middle Schools) and 64th Street (Upper School) in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. Browning, The Browning School has been a leader in fostering the intellectual and personal growth of boys and young men since 1888. Serving roughly 470 students in kindergarten through grade 12, Browning strives to combine the best of a traditional prep school environment and curriculum with imaginative teaching and a strong value system - all in a single-sex setting.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Browning is searching for a full-time Upper School Nurse for the remainder of the academic year and beginning October 27, 2025. The expected annual salary range for this position is $70,000-130,000, commensurate with experience. Applicants must be a professional Registered Nurse with a current New York State license and eligible to work in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

The Upper School Nurse is responsible for building strong relationships with students and faculty by shepherding the health and well-being of the Browning Upper School community of approximately 165 9-12 students and all faculty and staff. The School Nurse works closely with the Wellness team, which includes our mental health counselors and consulting psychologist, as well as our Student Support Team. A successful School Nurse will have a passion for working with high school-aged students and building community, as well as expertise in school and/or community health. Among other things, they are tasked with:

Overseeing the health and safety of the Browning community by providing assessment and implementing services in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Acts Attending to sickness, injuries, and administration of medications as needed, both prescription and a limited number of over-the-counter medications when approved by both MD and parent Communicating collaboratively with families and appropriate outside medical professionals regarding student health matters and appropriate medical care, as well as notification of medical issues within the community when necessary Teaching a ninth grade health class, which will meet for one hour once a week in three sections for the entire school year Creating strong relationships with students built on Browning's core values of honesty, dignity, curiosity, and purpose Maintaining and monitoring student and faculty electronic health and immunization records using the Magnus Health system and ensuring compliance with relevant legal and school health requirements Maintaining the health office with necessary medical supplies including monitoring inventory and notifying parents regarding expiration of medication on hand, epi pens, and inhalers Collaborating as a professional, collegial, and inspirational member of the Student Support and School Crisis Teams Collaborating with learning specialists and faculty on student 504 plans Maintaining active participation in the Independent School Nurses Association as well as monitoring current medical information to maintain best practices, including collaboration with nurses at peer schools and with the New York City Department of Health Working in collaboration with the Athletic Department to help make sure student athletes are physically prepared for team activities, as well as helping athletes rehab when necessary Enthusiastically contributing to the school community

A dynamic, team-oriented, and warm Upper School Nurse is sought to join our highly collaborative K-12 school community, which has an emphasis on building relationships and ensuring the physical and mental health of all. Along with being a Registered Nurse with a current New York State license, applicants must hold a current certification in CPR/AED and first aid. Knowledge of the Magnus Health system is desirable but not required. Experience in a school setting and/or working with children is highly preferred. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as sound judgment and professional decision-making skills.
