Job Summary
Perform daytime custodial duties as needed. Work with lead maintenance to perform maintenance projects as needed. Complete a wide variety of ground maintenance duties such as mowing, weed eating, pruning, etc.
Job Description / Essential Elements:
Under the direction of the Superintendent/Principal and Lead Maintenance Director, performs maintenance, custodial and groundskeeping duties to ensure Richfield Elementary School is well maintained, safe, clean and efficiently serving the needs of our staff and students. Responsible for daytime custodial activities, groundskeeping and maintenance as needed, and other job related duties as assigned.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: CUSTODIAL Perform responsible daytime custodial activities at Richfield school; sweep, scrub, mop, wax and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices and other work areas; spot clean and shampoo carpets. Assure security of site during assigned hours; lock and unlock gates, doors and windows; monitor facilities for fire hazards and report to appropriate personnel as required. Answers emergency calls at any time and takes appropriate actions to protect and preserve property. Clean, scrub and disinfect student and staff restrooms; wash windows and walls; polish metal work, clean sinks, mirrors and other bathroom fixtures; restock paper supplies and soap as necessary; clean drinking fountains. Adjust and arrange furniture and equipment; clean school lunch tables; set up school facilities for special events and meetings; make minor repairs to desks and chairs. Operate and maintain a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, and small power and hand tools; replace belts and bags on vacuum cleaners as necessary.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: MAINTENANCE
Work with the Lead Maintenance Director to maintain a preventative maintenance program. Assist outside vendors and maintenance contractors visiting the school site. Participate and direct other maintenance staff in thorough cleaning, painting and restoration of school grounds during school vacations. Make minor repairs and adjustments to plumbing, electrical equipment and apparatus in school buildings and grounds; clean plugged drains and drain pipes; replace fuses, fixtures and tape exposed wring; change air conditioning filters and maintain related logs. Maintain light fixtures for proper usage.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: GROUNDS Prepare ground for planting; plant, replant, fertilize, water, trim and prune shrubs, trees, flowers and lawns; rake leaves from planter beds. Mow and water lawns; weed lawn areas; edge sidewalk areas Power blow sidewalks, basketball courts and other walkway areas after mowing lawns. Pressure was sidewalks as needed. Mix and apply herbicides, pesticides and sprays over planted areas in accordance with state law Operate chain saw, cut fallen trees and limbs Clean and maintain grounds, pick up trash on school campus; pick up broken glass and debris around campus Line athletic fields and track; reseed, fertilize, and restore playing fields after sports events and activities; Maintain all tools and equipment; clean, grease, and adjust equipment as needed or according to manufacturer's specifications Repair minor sprinkler problems such as replacing sprinkler heads and repairing broken water lines
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Basic computer skills: ability to compose, send/receive email, use Google Docs and/or Microsoft files Modern cleaning methods and the preferred methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls and fixtures and surrounding areas. Safety practices and work methods. Basic record-keeping techniques. Plan, train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned custodians at Richfield School. 3 Work independently with little direction. Operate a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, and small power and hand tools and proper storage and maintenance of equipment. Meet schedules and time lines. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of groups, including teachers, students, staff, coworkers, vendors, consultants and others as required Complete minor construction projects and repairs as necessary. Produce work orders and complete necessary paperwork as required Lift and carry heavy objects (50+ lbs), climb ladders, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and two years experience in cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California drivers' license.
HAZARDS: Exposure to cleaning chemicals. Fumes from paints and solvents Exposure to pesticides.
