General Responsibilities:

Assure the patient has completed all necessary preparations for the visit, process patients in a timely manner, maintain the flow of the patient visit, assist with procedures and assure that the environment is kept safe and clean. Participate in after-visit planning. Perform documentation of the patient visit, as dictated by the medical provider. Assist medical provider in completing notes and post-visit orders as requested.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

High School graduate. Completion of post-secondary training in Medical Assistant program, or equivalent experience Strong organizational skills. Strong written and oral communication skills Able to work in a fast-paced environment using an electronic medical record (EMR) Preferred Qualifications:

Bi-lingual desirable. Training and/or certification as a medical scribe Candidates who do not meet all of the preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply. Significant Job Functions:

Clinical

Ensure all charts and forms for the clinic visit are ready for the provider, i.e. encounter form, chart forms, labs, and appointment list. Receive patients and take their vital signs, Wt, BP, HT pulse, temp. obtaining patient history/reason for visit, assisting the patient in case management as needed. Obtain need for medication refills; and record patient data in charts. Perform routine diagnostic tests per THC protocol. Responsible for assisting in answering calls for their provider and taking accurate messages. May assist the provider with phone calls as needed. Prepare patients for examinations and tests. Operate and maintain clinical equipment. Scrub speculums and tools, and properly sterilize them in an autoclave machine. Properly dispose of medical waste and sharps. Manage the flow of the provider. Assist providers in rooms as needed. Clean and stock rooms. Take inventory of medications and supplies as needed, checking expiration dates, and appropriate destruction of expired medications. Secure department at end of shift if last to leave; unplug equipment, lock medication cabinets and shut off lights. Adhere to OSHA, HRSA and other applicable licensing standards. Administrative

Complete paperwork as needed. Maintain appropriate departmental logs as needed. Order paperwork/clinical supplies as needed for effective clinic flow. Stamp lab and outpatient pads, and HIV forms. Order culture supplies from the state lab as needed. Responsible for maintaining printer in lab, putting updated information in the chart and encounter form on top of chart for provider. Obtain lab results Maintain self as a well-trained, competent, efficient and committed medical assistant. Perform other job-related duties as needed. Scribe

Must be able to use all functions of an electronic medical record and/or transcription software. Must accurately enter data into a database, search for information, send and receive email and attachments. Have a base knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology and treatment assessments to the extent required to understand and accurately transcribe dictated reports. Translate medical abbreviations into their expanded forms. Must be proficient in typing and spelling, punctuation, grammar and oral communication. Must be able to listen to complex medical information and summarize in a clear, complete and concise fashion. Attend trainings on diverse subjects such as information technology, legal, HIPAA and regulatory compliance, billing and coding. Must assimilate new knowledge into processes and procedures. Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the provider, including but not limited to: Patient medical history and physical exam Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits Provider-dictated diagnoses, examinations and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow up Referrals and letters for outside agencies Other items as directed by the provider.

Medical Scribes ensure that the providers' interpretation of all clinical data, lab or Diagnostic Imaging results are recorded accurately in the medical record. Medical Scribes may alert the provider when a chart is incomplete. Physical Effort/ Environment:

This role is onsite Requires walking, bending, and occasional lifting. Frequent use of the phone, writing, typing, doing vital signs and verbal communication. Need to be able to clean instruments appropriately and clean up waiting rooms and exam rooms as needed. Work Schedule Demands:

40-hour week; one evening shift and occasional unscheduled overtime. Communication Skills:

Communicate with patients, providers, and colleagues daily. General communication over the phone and taking messages. Skill in decreasing patient stress about blood drawing an asset.
