Koniag Information Technology Services (KITS), a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to support our Army customer in Huntsville, Alabama. This position requires on-site presence in Huntsville, Alabama.

The Database Administrator will be responsible for ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient operation of database systems and related infrastructure. This on-site role will focus on providing comprehensive database and system administration for both on-premises and cloud environments at Army Materiel Command (AMC) Headquarters. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with database management, performance optimization, and security best practices across multiple database platforms.

Principal responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Provide comprehensive database administration for both on-premises and cloud environments

Support system administration for database-related infrastructure and SharePoint environments

Utilize ITIL and CMMI best practices in all database management activities

Proactively monitor database performance and identify potential bottlenecks

Develop and implement database optimization strategies to enhance system performance

Create clear database architecture diagrams and administration plans

Design and maintain database structures, schemas, tables, and relationships

Manage software updates, patches, and version upgrades for database systems

Troubleshoot and resolve database issues in a timely and effective manner

Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure database systems meet operational requirements

Apply security patches consistently according to established schedules

Implement and maintain database security controls and access management

Ensure adherence to security policies and procedures for database environments

Support system accreditation processes and requirements

Develop and test robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans for databases

Implement backup and recovery strategies to protect organizational data

Analyze database usability and recommend user experience enhancements

Identify and resolve interoperability issues between database systems and applications

Manage database access controls, user permissions, and role assignments

Create regular reports detailing database health and performance metrics

Ensure all documentation and reports are accessible through the AMC Enterprise Portal

Optimize database query performance and storage utilization

Provide technical expertise on database technologies and best practices

Education and Experience:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

3+ years of experience in database administration or related roles

Experience with both on-premises and cloud-based database environments

Knowledge of SharePoint database management

Demonstrated experience with database performance optimization

Required Skills and Competencies:

Strong proficiency in database management systems (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.)

Experience with cloud database services (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, etc.)

Knowledge of SharePoint database administration

Understanding of ITIL and CMMI best practices

Experience with database performance monitoring and optimization

Ability to create system architecture diagrams and documentation

Proficiency in SQL and database query optimization

Experience managing database security and access controls

Knowledge of database backup and recovery procedures

Understanding of disaster recovery and business continuity concepts

Experience troubleshooting complex database issues

Familiarity with database high availability solutions

Knowledge of database patching and upgrade procedures

Experience with database capacity planning and scaling

Ability to analyze system usability and recommend improvements

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal

Experience creating technical reports and documentation

Ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders

Knowledge of cybersecurity principles as applied to databases

Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances

Willingness to work on-site in Huntsville, Alabama

Desired Skills and Competencies:

Master's degree in a relevant technical field

Database certifications (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, AWS, Azure, etc.)

Experience working with Army or DoD database environments

Knowledge of federal security requirements for database systems

Experience with database automation and scripting

Familiarity with database auditing and compliance monitoring

Background in data warehousing and business intelligence

Experience with database migration and consolidation projects

Knowledge of DevOps practices for database management

Experience with containerized database solutions

Understanding of data governance frameworks

Background in data modeling and design

Experience supporting enterprise applications

Knowledge of enterprise portal technologies

Familiarity with API integration for databases
