Job Title: Phlebotomist - Alexandria

Job Description

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.

Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.

Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.

Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against the script.

Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperatures.

Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures for transport.

Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Attend annual department trainings and answer telephone inquiries regarding laboratory results.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in phlebotomy, including blood draw and venipuncture.

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

Two years of experience in phlebotomy.

Experience with adult blood draws.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

2-4 years of experience in a related field.

Work Environment

The position operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM within an internal medicine setting, handling approximately 20-30 patients per day.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
