Role - Cisco Network Engineer - LAN and WAN Management
Position Summary: Seeking an experienced Cisco Network Engineer specializing in LAN and WAN management to design, deploy, secure, and maintain the department's enterprise network infrastructure. This includes a complex IP/MPLS Core WAN, secure VPN architectures, and data center networks. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with Cisco technologies, strong analytical skills, and a track record of managing mission-critical networks in high-availability environments, preferably within the government or public sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, configure, deploy, and maintain Cisco networking solutions (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers) across LAN, WAN, and data center environments. Administer and monitor DPSCS IP/MPLS Core WAN Infrastructure and Disaster Recovery networks. Manage and troubleshoot secured VPN solutions (IPSec/DMVPN), VLANs, and advanced routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS). Utilize tools like SolarWinds, Wireshark, Cisco DNA Center, and Cisco ThousandEyes to monitor network health and proactively identify and resolve issues. Support and administer Cisco Identity Services Engine (Client) for secure access control, including TACACS+ and RADIUS configurations. Automate network operations such as configuration, diagnostics, and software upgrades using Cisco DNA Center and other automation tools. Deploy and manage Cisco wireless infrastructure including 9800 series wireless controllers. Configure and maintain Cisco Nexus and IOS/IOS XE platforms in data center and core WAN environments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan network expansions, migrations, and hardware refresh initiatives. Conduct regular network audits and assessments, ensuring compliance with security policies and documentation standards. Maintain accurate and detailed network documentation, including topology diagrams, configurations, and change logs. Ensure network infrastructure aligns with best practices in Zero Trust Network Access, micro-segmentation, business continuity, and disaster recovery.

Experience:
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience managing enterprise Cisco networks. Strong experience with routing, switching, wireless, security, and VPN technologies. Prior experience in government or public sector environments is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Advanced knowledge of network protocols: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS,
VLANs, VPNs
Proficiency in using network tools: SolarWinds, Cisco DNA Center, Cisco Client, Cisco ThousandEyes
