JOB SUMMARY:

The Continuous Improvement Engineer will leverage skills in data analysis, project design, management, and leadership to ensure performance and further develop processes. The person in this position is responsible for using Lean principles to drive continuous improvement initiatives and excellence within operations. This role participates in planning and implementing Kaizen activities on the production floor within the manufacturing facility.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods and work methods Identity opportunities for process improvement, waste removal, and cost reduction Research and identify relevant benchmarks to be used in establishment of standard work and standard operating procedures Analyze data and use value stream mapping to transform as-is processes and procedures Plan, facilitate, and lead continuous improvement efforts through Kaizen events and establishment of Kata routines Establish a clear implementation plan which includes criteria and tracking of project success and key deliverables Collaborate with multiple functions that interact with production to improve transactional processes such as customer order processing or logistics activities Influence and guide managers and other leaders with respect to Lean methodologies, and look for opportunities to develop continuous improvement proficiency in those leaders Serve as 5S expert by training employees on the methodology as well as developing individuals to lead 5S events as part of a company-wide implementation strategy Participate in the evaluation of equipment, make recommendations, and provide justification for capital expenditures

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree in, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.

• 3-5 years of project management experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment

• Experience in the application of quality improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma/DMAIC, Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Cell Design, Kata, and Root Cause Analysis

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, including advanced skills with Excel

• Experience with metal cutting, forming, welding, and fabrication is a plus

• Experience with CNC wood cutting, laminating, milling and millwork assembly is a plus

• Must display effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of employees

• Ability to independently weigh and manage priorities

• Display flexibility and diplomacy when dealing with production staff and other coworkers

• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally

• Occasionally required to stand/walk for 6-8 hours per day for project-based assignments on production floor
