Position Summary
The Facilities Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper operation, safety, and upkeep of YMCA facilities and equipment. This role includes performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and completing repairs in a timely manner. The Facilities Technician works closely with the District Facilities Director and other team members to maintain a clean, safe, and functional environment for members, staff, and visitors. This position requires technical skills in equipment maintenance, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to quality facility care.
Job Responsibilities Ability to travel and report to multiple worksites. Maintain a clean and safe YMCA facility. Support facility staff with maintenance-related tasks. Assist in coordinating contractors and vendors for projects across multiple locations. Update equipment records in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Perform maintenance on building systems, fitness equipment, and operational systems. Help coordinate janitorial staff as needed, under the direction of the District Facilities Director. Maintain safety inspection records and follow documentation policies. Complete property and facility maintenance, including updating preventive maintenance plans. Order and manage supplies for safety, cleaning, and maintenance. Purchase materials and products for maintenance and custodial needs. Provide limited supervision of custodial staff, including assigning tasks and following up on cleaning issues. Perform repairs and installations, including plumbing fixtures, electrical outlets, lighting, motors (up to 10 HP), HVAC preventive maintenance, and wall-mounted items. Clear sewer lines as needed. Perform various repairs and installations, such as doors, cabinets, fixtures, windows, floors, walls, gutters, locks, and furniture. Assemble purchased fitness equipment. Perform painting as needed. Be available for emergency calls 24/7 as scheduled. Provide maintenance support at other YMCA locations as needed. Communicate effectively with custodial, maintenance, and other YMCA staff. Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and members. Receive training to handle hazardous materials (e.g., chlorine and acid) for pool maintenance. Assist with YMCA renovation projects as required. Perform custodial duties during emergencies to maintain facility cleanliness. Advise directors on maintenance issues and provide updates as needed. Support YMCA operations through leadership and teamwork. Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed efficiently. Ensure all maintenance tools and equipment are properly maintained and in excellent working condition. Work Environment and Physical Demands
Primarily works indoors in a facility setting, with occasional outdoor work for grounds maintenance or repairs. May be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and outdoor weather conditions. Regularly works around mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
May be exposed to chemicals such as cleaning agents, pool treatment products, and maintenance-related substances. Work may involve loud noises from machinery, tools, or fitness equipment. Requires interaction with staff, vendors, and YMCA members.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and climbing. Regular use of ladders, scaffolding, and lifts for maintenance tasks. Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 60 lbs. Requires manual dexterity to operate tools, machinery, and equipment. May involve prolonged periods of working in confined spaces or overhead positions. Must be able to respond quickly to maintenance emergencies, including after-hours calls.

Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years old. Minimum of 2 years of experience in building and grounds maintenance. Experience in maintaining and repairing fitness equipment. Experience managing contractors and vendor projects. Knowledge of life safety, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other maintenance systems. Proficient in using power and hand tools. Ability to lift and move at least 60 lbs., climb ladders, and use scaffolding. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in using personal computers and Office 365. Current Pool Operator certification or ability to obtain within six months (YMCA will provide training). Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to read and interpret building plans.
