Overview
Snyder & Associates has an immediate opening for an Archaeological Field Technician. The archaeology field technician performs a variety of archaeological field survey tasks under the supervision of a senior archaeologist. This is an on-call/as-needed role, with hours determined by weather conditions and project deman. The successful candidate will be reliable and flexible with availability during peak seasons (spring, summer, fall).
Responsibilities Projects, both local and non-local, will be mobilized from our Ankeny office and include the following responsibilities:
Conduct field surveys in accordance with federal, state, and company standards
Carry out shovel testing, excavation, and comprehensive site documentation.
Accurately identify historic and prehistoric artifacts and features.
Assist with artifact identification, labeling, and cataloging
Record accurate and detailed field notes, including maps, photographs, and standardized forms
Participate in GPS data collection in the field under the supervision of Project Archaeologist
Performing other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications Required:
Archaeological field school or prior archaeological field survey experience.
Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on varied terrain.
Ability to work weekends and over 40 hours per week when needed.
Working knowledge of archaeological survey protocols.
Ability to work in the field for extended periods of time.
B.A. in Anthropology, Archaeology or related field will be advantageous.
