About the Job

The IACUC Compliance Associate is responsible for the conduct, management, and tracking of key regulatory functions related to the use of animals in research, teaching, and display at the University of Minnesota. The Compliance Associate serves as a voting member or alternate on the IACUC. The position reports to the IACUC Director and may support other Compliance Associates to facilitate the IACUCs management and function. Compliance Associates may have a specialized or lead role in areas such as inspections, protocol submissions, regulatory exceptions, investigations, and data analysis. Requires attention to detail, ability to work independently, and strong communication with faculty and lab staff. Responsibilities 30% Daily IACUC Operations, Committee/Panel Management Independently triages and moves research protocols through the electronic protocol system (eProtocol), including new submissions and amendments Conducts pre-screening to ensure submissions are ready for review and provides initial feedback to investigators Routes submissions for review (administrative, VVC, veterinary pre-review, DMR, FCR) Updates internal tracking spreadsheets Communicates with investigators to facilitate protocol submission and review Attends IACUC meetings to provide regulatory guidance and administrative support Reviews and updates policies and SOPs; assists with website updates and meeting minutes

30% Post Approval Monitoring, Semi-Annual, and Other Inspections

Coordinates inspections with laboratory staff, committee members, veterinarians, and others Performs semi-annual inspections of animal housing/use areas and related records to meet federal requirements and ensure animal welfare Performs post-approval monitoring of approved studies to ensure compliance Writes inspection reports and follows up with investigators for timely corrective action Documents inspection data in databases for coordination and reporting

15% Inquiry/Investigation/Escalation

Manages communications relating to non-responders to inspection reports Escalates findings as needed and assists with inquiries and self-reports, including preparing documents and tracking through closure

15% Data Management and Reporting

Generates reports using protocol management software for program reviews, USDA inspections, AAALAC visits, and investigations Tracks metrics related to protocol review and inspections Maintains documentation of exceptions/exemptions and animal housing data for inspections

10% Completes other duties and projects as assigned

Flexible Work Location

The Research and Innovation Office (RIO) and IACUC Office offer a flexible work environment. Work location options include partially remote or fully on-site. On-site work and occasional in-state travel may be necessary. This position is eligible for flexible work profiles 1-3 as described below. IACUC management reserves the right to modify flexible work arrangements as needed. Profile 1 Office Lab-Based : On-site in the office/lab; remote work is rare. Office location: McNamara Alumni Center. Profile 2 Regularly Remote : On-site at least 3 days/week; remote 1-2 days/week. Office location: McNamara Alumni Center. Profile 3 Mostly Remote : Remote work at least 3 days/week; office on-site 1-2 days/week. Office location: remote work location.

Note: Flexible work arrangements may be modified by IACUC management as needed. Qualifications

Required Qualifications BA/BS degree plus at least four years of related work experience, or a combination of education and experience equal to eight years Demonstrated written and oral communication skills; ability to compose correspondence and maintain accurate records Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications Previous laboratory research experience Previous experience with IACUC regulations and tasks Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Gmail; familiarity with PowerPoint
