Overview
KVH seeks a Technical Architect for
KVH Manager , our enterprise-class application used by customers, service providers, and KVH internal support teams. This role sits within a high-performing technology and product team operating in a dynamic market, delivering data, voice, and other services to maritime, remote-geo, and other market sectors where reliable, high-quality online access is critical. You will lead the architecture and technical direction of a platform integrating real-time data streams, event-driven workflows, and secure enterprise integrations all deployed on a modern AWS serverless infrastructure. Reports to the director of Customer Applications. Why This Role is Important The AWS services profile from our most recent operational month shows
core workloads in compute, storage, relational databases, search, observability, and secure networking , with significant use of event-driven architectures and archival storage. The Technical Architect will be responsible for
ensuring performance, cost-efficiency, and security
across this environment, while guiding the technical evolution of KVH Manager to meet future business and customer demands. Responsibilities Architect, design, and oversee implementation of scalable, high-availability AWS cloud solutions for
KVH Manager
and associated enterprise applications. Integrate and optimize core AWS services with a focus on
EC2, S3, RDS, OpenSearch, VPC, Lambda, SQS, Storage Gateway, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Redshift . Lead technical decision-making for event-driven and serverless workloads, leveraging
API Gateway, Kinesis, Step Functions, Athena, Glue, and ElastiCache . Design and manage secure, compliant architectures using
IAM, Security Hub, GuardDuty, KMS, WAF , and networking best practices. Oversee data lifecycle and archival strategies across
S3 Glacier, Glacier Deep Archive, Storage Gateway Deep Archive , balancing compliance and cost. Develop and maintain automation for infrastructure provisioning and deployment using
Terraform ,
Jenkins , and DevOps pipelines (GitHub/GitLab). Monitor and optimize workloads using CloudWatch metrics/logs, CloudTrail auditing, and cost analysis. Partner with product management, development, DevOps, and security teams to translate business needs into technical solutions. Support integration with Salesforce CRM/SFA, including Apex, Visualforce, and Force.com customization.
Qualifications
BS in Computer Science
or equivalent. 7+ years
in full software development lifecycle, from requirements to production support. Proven expertise with provisioning and managing AWS services, especially: High-cost/core services from current production environment : EC2, S3, RDS, OpenSearch, VPC, Lambda, SQS, Storage Gateway, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Redshift. Supportive services : ELB, DynamoDB, Kinesis Firehose, Athena, Glue, API Gateway, ElastiCache, Step Functions, Route 53, WAF, KMS, GuardDuty, Security Hub. Development experience in
Python/Flask ,
JavaScript/AngularJS , C++, HTML, CSS, XML. Some experience with
Ruby on Rails
is a plus, as it is a legacy deployment at KVH Enterprise. Expertise in serverless and container orchestration (ECS/ECR), and scaling strategies (Auto Scaling, Load Balancing). Strong knowledge of networking, security groups, and software-defined networking in AWS. Hands-on DevOps skills, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and environment monitoring. Experience in Agile environments, daily SCRUM participation, and cross-functional collaboration. Excellent communication skills and commitment to high-quality results. Hybrid with Preference of 2 days on site. U.S. Citizen and/or Permanent resident required.
