We are seeking a Senior Engineer - Protection & Control at our corporate office in Albany, NY.
Position Summary :
The position assumes the responsibilities of an electrical engineer performing design of protection, control, and SCADA systems with emphasis on design of protection and control of High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission systems to be incorporated into substations and switchyards. Responsible to lead a team of engineers and drafters for substation and switchyard projects including detailed electrical physical design as well as system studies for HV and HV substation / switchyard projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position :
Practical knowledge and understanding of Engineering/Procurement/Construction types of projects. Coordinating project flow and issues between all engineering discipline and project management. Providing engineering support to project management, procurement and construction on all related aspects of AHV projects. Coordinate and lead an engineering team to efficiently execute engineering and design of substation/switchyard projects. Oversight and guidance of other engineers on the execution of projects Read, interpret and translate client/contract specifications into protection & control design schemes. Developing single-line switching and protection diagrams. Developing three-line and DC schematic diagrams. Creating equipment specifications and supporting procurement of equipment including working with vendors and review of the vendor/contractor-proposed equipment. Conducting the required system studies and creating reports: Short Circuit and Protective Device Coordination; Insulation Coordination; Load Flow; Reactive Power Compensation; MV and HV Cable Ampacity; etc. Developing control panel layouts and wiring diagrams; Selecting protective devices and ratings. Coordinate design with clients, vendors and subcontractors, including attendance at meetings. Assure that all engineering documents and records are properly maintained. Coordinate with purchasing and quality control personnel. Coordination/guidance of designers/drafters and detailed review/approval of electrical drawings. Understanding unique requirements and constraints of multiple types of projects, including engineering-only, EPC, utility, renewable, industrial, commercial, etc. Teach and mentor young engineers and/or new employees on electrical engineering, design, theory and company practices. Participate in the development and review of company standards and design tools to optimize design applications. Act as Engineer of Record for one or more projects simultaneously Supervision:

Professional Engineering license (one or more US states) is required. Educational Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering. Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering and/or various educational courses in power systems analysis, electrical machinery, protective relaying, etc. Knowledge of NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE and other applicable codes and standards. Experience & Training Requirements:
10+ Years' Experience in Design of Transmission Level Substations (13.8kV - 500 kV) including: Transmission Line Protection Substation Protection and Control Systems Generator, Transformer and Bus Protection Schemes Development of station/substation single-line, protection, control and SCADA diagrams including utility and ISO interconnection and operational requirements Equipment specifications, designs and layouts including major equipment and protection, control, SCADA, and low-voltage auxiliary systems Capacitor Bank and Distribution Feeder Protection Demonstrated experience at all interfaces of transmission level projects Minimum of 8 years of application experience with SEL, GE, etc. relays. Codes and Standards: NEC, NFPA, NESC, OSHA, NERC, RUS, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, Local and Federal Building Codes Familiarity with, and Professional Engineering laws in states registered and review of, substation drawings and calculations including general arrangements, clearances, details, conduit, grounding, lightning protection, etc. Ability to obtain PE license by Reciprocity in states not currently licensed. Highly motivated and able to execute tasks from a lead role. Good written and verbal communications skills. Ability to work well with others in a team setting. Skilled in engineering theories and principles. Skilled in practice of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations. Senior Engineers' travel level is typically 10%. Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift / move equipment up to 15 lbs.
