Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines. Directly report to the Director of Environmental Affairs and lead environmental performance at assigned field locations through the environmental pillars of Communication, Compliance, and Management of Change. Work with managers and staff at assigned field locations to ensure compliance with environmental laws, rules, regulations, and permits. Direct and/or participate in environmental audit programs. Develop, implement, and execute the Company's environmental policy. Ensure each facility maintains files of all environmental permits and submits timely permit renewals and modifications. Recommend and supervise hiring and direction of consultants, lawyers, contractors, lobbyists, and other specialists related to environmental laws and permitting. Prepare or assist in responses to Notices of Violation or other regulatory actions and initiatives directed at Company facilities. Monitor state and federal rule developments and inform management of regulations that could impact the organization. Assist facilities in preparing and submitting timely reports to regulatory agencies (e.g., stormwater, air emission inventories, excess emissions, periodic CEM and CMS reports, hazardous waste activity reports, toxic release inventories). Coordinate with the Vice President Technical Service on stack tests, regulatory compliance, and related matters; assist in trial/test burn plans and reports. Maintain RCRA and NESHAP records for plants using waste-derived fuel; review and modify RCRA Closure Plans and Estimates as needed; assist with annual RCRA financial assurance instruments and reports. Review Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plans annually and ensure maintenance by licensed engineers where required. Assist in preparing new, modified, or renewal RCRA Part B permit applications and responses to Notices of Deficiency; maintain record copies in Overland Park. Ensure timely payment of environmental permit fees. Help facilities develop and maintain procedures to prevent hazards and protect health and the environment. Maintain active membership in professional organizations and represent the Company on industry committees; attend relevant seminars; obtain and maintain professional certification. Advise upper management and field managers about current and forthcoming environmental issues or regulations. Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. What Youll Need to Succeed
Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels and instructions. Bachelors degree (minimum) in environmental studies, engineering, law, or related field; graduate degree preferred. Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in areas such as environmental regulation, consulting, law, engineering, corporate environmental staff, or related roles. Experience with air and water pollution, solid and hazardous wastes, toxic substances, asbestos, community-right-to-know, SPCC plans, and storage tanks. Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and attention to detail; ability to influence internal and external stakeholders. Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permits; familiarity with CEM and COM systems and QA/QC procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work under general supervision with defined guidelines. Domestic travel up to 75%.
