About Us: We specialize in the design and production of apparel for women with a strong focus on stylish, trend-forward shirts of various styles. One division produces licensed collegiate apparel, and the second division produces everyday casual apparel. We supply goods to various large chain retailers as well as small retailers and have a direct-to-consumer website.
Position Overview: A Buyer/Planner with inventory management responsibilities manages the procurement and planning of materials to ensure optimal inventory levels that meet production and customer demands. This professional analyzes data, forecast needs, and collaborates with suppliers and internal teams between our print facility and our distribution facility, to improve efficiency and reduce costs throughout the supply chain.
Duties and responsibilities Procurement and purchasing
Procure raw materials, components, and finished goods to meet production schedules and sales forecasts.
Ability to use software tools to forecast purchases 6 months in advance.
Issue and manage purchase orders, blanket orders, and vendor consignment programs.
Collaborate with suppliers to meet quality, cost, and delivery standards.
Monitor and manage on-time delivery from suppliers, expediting or de-expediting orders as needed.
Manage and resolve invoice, quality, and delivery discrepancies with suppliers.
Other duties as assigned
Production Planning
Assist Production Manager with production schedule of completed goods and subcomponents (on a weekly basis).
Calculate resource requirements (workers, materials, machinery) for each production run.
Ensure on-time production time by maintaining adequate raw material inventory.
Streamline processes and decrease lead-time to improve efficiency.
Modify schedules to meet deadlines and adjust for unforeseen issues.
Oversee production output and ensure orders are fulfilled on time and within budget.
Monitor the production process to identify and address scheduling conflicts or delays.
Regularly update management on production status.
Promptly communicate changes to production schedules to relevant departments.
Collaborate with various departments (e.g., art and design) to ensure resource availability.
Continuously identify opportunities to cut production costs.
Recommend and implement strategies to enhance production process efficiency and quality.
Inventory management
Maintain optimal inventory levels to meet demand while minimizing costs from excess and obsolete stock.
Utilize an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Material Requirements
Planning (MRP) system for planning, scheduling, and inventory control.
Conduct regular cycle counts and participate in physical inventory counts to ensure accuracy.
Analyze historical data, sales forecasts, and market trends to predict future demand and inform purchasing strategies.
Establish and maintain a plan for every part (PFEP), setting optimal safety stock, buffer, and reorder points.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, production, and finance, to align on inventory needs and resolve issues.
Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for procurement and inventory and report on supply chain metrics.
Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives and projects.
Qualifications and requirements Education and experience
Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
3–5+ years of experience in a buyer, planner, or supply chain role.
Experience with ERP or MRP systems (e.g., AIMS360, ApparelMagic, BlueCherry, Oracle, NetSuite, Acumatica).
Skills and abilities
Analytical skills: Strong ability to analyze data, interpret trends, and solve complex problems.
Communication: Effective/professional written and verbal communication to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
Attention to detail: High level of accuracy in managing purchase orders, inventory records, and planning parameters.
Time management: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Technical proficiency: Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and experience with inventory management software.
Responsibilities cover work performed in two facilities located 10 minutes apart.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple responsibilities with a professional attitude.
