Job Summary:
The Pipe and Plumbing Estimator effectively produces quality cost estimates for the P&P portions of a new commercial or industrial building project as well as change orders for current projects and assists in the compilation of bids and management of costs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate, including labor, material, equipment and subcontracted work
Submits pre-bid RFIs for clarifications
Prepares discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and required contents of estimate
Maintains files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures
Negotiates pricing
Coordinates support activities and maintains relationships with all parties involved in project
Analyzes, compares and interprets detailed information to make sound and accurate judgments
Participates in turnover meetings
Other duties as assigned
Non-Essential Job Duties:
Attends jobsite walkthroughs
Attends pre-bid meetings
Essential Qualifications:
HS Diploma
3-5 years minimum experience in estimating large scale construction jobs
Advanced knowledge of commercial and industrial Pipe and Plumbing systems
Knowledge of installation process
Ability to interpret computerized data
Ability to negotiate favorable pricing
Computer literacy in office communication programs, Excel and Word
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with vendors, suppliers, subcontractors and clients
Strong attention to detail
Working knowledge of Auto Bid Software
Preferred Job Qualifications:
BS in Engineering or Construction Management
Ability to compile a bid in response to an RFP/RFQ/RFI
Knowledge of design and building code
ADA Specifications:
Position requires sitting for prolonged periods and occasional standing and walking. Manual dexterity required for computer work. There is occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Office work environment with a moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations will be made available.
