JOB SUMMARY : Sycamores is a contracted provider with city of San Gabriel to operate the San Gabriel Valley -Crisis Assistance Response and Engagement Team (CARE Team). It is an in-person emergency behavioral health service responding to crises in three regions throughout the San Gabriel Valley. The SGV CARE Team services include, but not limited to: welfare checks, crisis intervention, de-escalation and stabilization, assessments, emotional/psycho-social support, and follow-up services to each client as appropriate.
The Substance Abuse Counselor for the San Gabriel Valley - CARE Team will be a part of the Response Team. The role of the Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor is to provide timely support including crisis stabilization, safety planning, assessment, and interventions that develop coping and problem-solving skills, teach social skills and transference of those skills into the home and community. A Substance Abuse Counselor is part of the multi-disciplinary team that implements integrated substance abuse services, and peer support services. They utilize evidence-based practices to ensure that consumers are receiving culturally and linguistically appropriate services and trauma-informed care. When not responding to crisis calls the Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor will provide outreach in coordination with law enforcement to identify high utilizers of 911 resources.
Starting Pay Range:
$70,720 - $72,800 per year for Full-Time employment (starting pay will be based on previous work experience and educational background.)
Shift Schedule:
Monday - Friday 9 am - 5:30 pm
JOB QUALIFICATIONS Certification with one of the State of California's, approved Alcohol & Drug agencies (CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP) required. Certified in the State of California as Level I or Level II Alcohol and Drug counselor required. 2 years' experience as a certified drug and alcohol counselor preferred. Experience working with the unhoused population and street outreach. Valid California Driver License and a driving record acceptable to the Agency's insurance carrier. Ability to use agency vehicles with appropriate insurance for all transporting consumers. and adhering to federal, state, and local motor vehicle safety standards when transporting children.
Maintains all required licenses and certifications. Bilingual Spanish fluency required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The ability to physically manage and/or de-escalate consumers/residents. Frequent driving in the community with consumers. Frequent/continuous intermittent standing/walking, occasional/intermittent sitting. Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and chest level. Reaching at or above shoulder level may be necessary. Bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing. Occasional/intermittent lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous use of near vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills in handling telephone calls, interacting with customers and co-workers and performing job duties. Requires physical presence in the office during shift. Ability to practice physical intervention for safety of consumers according to training and policy. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
