N/A Objectives

Individual is responsible for driving public transit vehicles, including vans and buses. Individual transports passengers to specific locations. Individual reports to the Road Supervisor.

Job Standards A High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

Work consists of moderately complex, relatively standardized tasks, processes, and operations following established laws and procedures. The individual understands work processes, methods, and the use of equipment.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:

A. Must possess a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

B. Successful completion of previous employment verification and criminal background Investigation. C. Successful completion of post-offer Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examination, including drug and alcohol screen. In addition, the employee must continue to meet driver fitness standards, as determined by the Job Essential Functions. Essential Functions ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Transports passengers to various locations within Delaware County and adjacent counties; Transports passengers to other various locations for arranged special trips as necessary; Communicates with dispatcher and/or follows pre-arranged trip manifest to determine need and location of passenger pick up and drop off sites; Assists passengers including the elderly, disabled, and medically fragile passenger both into and out of facilities and vehicles, as necessary; Secures, loads and unloads wheel chairs for passengers as necessary; Cleans exterior and interior of vehicle, as necessary; Completes driver's manifest and trip verification records daily; Inspects vehicles regularly for assessment of maintenance and repair needs; and Performs minor vehicle maintenance as necessary including topping off fluids, changing light bulbs, etc.; and Determines need and communicates with DCT staff for preventative maintenance or repair of transit vehicles and equipment and delivers vehicle for maintenance repair, as necessary. Performs duties in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations and employer's policies, procedures, and guidelines. Successfully completes initial training program and retraining programs and classes as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s). SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGES

Equipment

:

Ability to operate passenger transit vehicles based on the individual's current license, a wheelchair lift, power washer, air compressor, hand-tools, computer and personal electronic devices.

Critical Skills/Expertise

:

Knowledge of the federal, state and local requirements, methods, materials, tools, equipment, and standard practices of van/bus driving; Knowledge of Bureau of Motor Vehicle traffic laws, defensive driving and vehicle safety; Ability to adhere to office policies and procedures; Knowledge of preventative maintenance measures connected with buses/vans; Required completion of annual training of blood-borne pathogen procedures and sanitation of bodily fluids; Knowledge of the Delaware County area including the ability to read maps and the ability to drive to unfamiliar areas; Ability to operate a van or bus in inclement weather conditions; Ability to read and understand electronic manifests in order to determine specific bus stops and instructions for transporting passengers; Knowledge of wheelchair structure and operations; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Ability to work effectively with clients and customers, specifically elderly, disabled or medically fragile individuals who may be upset, distraught, irate, emotionally or mentally or otherwise unable to function within reasonable range of constructive behaviors; Ability to work under pressure and to capably interact with coworkers, supervisors and other members of various departments and agencies.

RESPONSIBILITY

Individual is given general direction in following established practices and clear-cut policies. Work is performed under moderate supervision. Instructions are relatively complete. Individual applies knowledge of technical manual and work precedents and recommends or requests deviations from general instructions when necessary. Errors in work may cause delays in work or loss in expenditures for materials and/or equipment or unjustified work time. A moderate degree of care and skill are required to protect equipment and prevent injury to others.
