Substitute Bus Monitor
Job Summary
The Substitute Bus Monitor is responsible for assisting the driver in safely transporting students to and from school and related activities. Key duties include ensuring the safety of passengers while riding the bus, assisting students with loading and unloading on the bus, and maintaining a positive, respectful environment on the bus. Monitors must adhere to local, state and school policies, communicate effectively with students and parents, and respond to emergencies with calmness and efficiency. They are expected to maintain positive relationships with staff and the community.
Qualification
Seeking or completed a High School Diploma or GED in an approved program
15+ years of age
Eligibility to work in the United States (I9)
Clear Kentucky State Police, FBI, and Child Abuse Network background check
Completed general health and TB assessment
Successful completion of training as specified by the local school district and Kentucky Department of Education Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Majority of work is completed during regular working hours
Majority of work is completed independently
Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation
Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching
Requires the ability to lift, carry, push and pull weights up to 50 pounds

Duties and Responsibilities
Prioritize the safety and well being of all passengers during transit
Supervise students during the bus ride, ensuring no dangerous or disruptive behavior takes place that could interfere with the bus driver's ability to operate the vehicle safely.
Assist in the safe loading and unloading of students at designated bus stops, ensuring that students follow proper boarding procedures.
Report inappropriate behavior to the bus driver and school administration
Interact with students in a calm and professional manner to ensure compliance with safety rules.
Assist in emergency bus evacuation drills as required by Kentucky Administration Regulations
Observe applicable local, State and federal policies, procedures and guidelines
Act swiftly and calm in emergency situations
