Gentiva Hospice
Companionship volunteers are needed to visit with and enrich the quality of life for a patient with a life-shortening diagnosis who is receiving hospice care. This program, with adequate training, allows volunteers to be matched one on one with a patient. The volunteer will be able to have his/her autonomy to choose various ways to offer kindness through companionship, which may include general dialogue, reading, sharing musical talents and at time just simply holding their hand. The volunteers can also set their own schedule that is convenient for both parties. Typically, a volunteer would make a visit 2-4 times a month from approx. 30 minutes to a couple of hours. Additionally, visits could involve helping the family cope by offering respite time as the family member runs errands for them, helping with light housework, or helping to prepare meals. Whether you are retired student needing volunteer hours, or just wanting to make a difference for others, this is an extremely meaningful and rewarding way to contribute to your community
