Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our civil and site construction team. The Estimator will be responsible for analyzing project plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for site development, utilities, grading, paving, drainage, and other civil construction projects. This role is essential in helping the company secure profitable work while ensuring competitive and realistic project bids.
Duties:
Estimate Preparation
Review and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications. Prepare detailed cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Develop bid proposals and ensure compliance with client requirements and deadlines. Identify risks, constructability issues, and value engineering opportunities. Project & Vendor Coordination
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations. Build and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to confirm scope and constructability. Analysis & Reporting
Perform quantity take-offs for earthwork, utilities, concrete, asphalt, and other site-related work. Track historical cost data for use in future estimates. Prepare bid summaries and present recommendations to management. Compliance & Documentation
Ensure estimates comply with safety, environmental, and quality standards. Maintain accurate records of estimates, bid documents, and revisions. Support contract negotiations and project hand-offs after award. Qualifications:
Minimum of 3-5 years of estimating experience in civil/site construction. Strong knowledge of grading, paving, utilities, drainage, and earthwork. Skills
Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Agtek, or similar). Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
