What You Will Do As a Pharmacist, you will be responsible for safely filling and dispensing prescriptions to patients, assisting the Director of Pharmacy Operations with the overall pharmacy operations, directing the work of pharmacy technician(s), and collaborating with IHI physicians, nursing staff, and pharmacy staff to ensure patient medication needs are being met in an accurate, friendly, and expedient manner. The Opportunity Assist in inventorying, ordering, storage, distribution, and disposal of prescribed medications in accordance with governmental regulations.

Ensure that adequate inventory levels exist to meet patient needs. Interpret, evaluate, prepare, and dispense prescribed medications in accordance with physician orders and in compliance with applicable pharmacy laws and regulations.

Verify all aspects of pharmacy technician medication preparation and ensure that product substitutions are made safely and accurately. Maintain prescription records for each patient and update records with new information in a timely manner.

Monitor drug therapy by evaluating patient medical history for significant drug interactions, adverse reactions, therapeutic drug dosages, and compliance with prescription orders. Counsel and educate patients to prevent potential drug interactions and promote optimal drug therapy through proper use. Prevent, detect, monitor, and resolve medication-related issues through pharmaceutical education and consultation with providers. Contribute to IHI research study efforts as requested by the Medical Director. If designated the Pharmacist in Charge, assume responsibility for the legal operation of the pharmacy, including meeting all inspection requirements and other state and federal regulations governing the practice of pharmacy. Efficiently triage incoming pharmacy calls by screening, prioritizing, routing, and documentation. Performance Requirements: Knowledge: Knowledge of disease states, therapeutic use of drugs, clinically significant drug interactions and adverse drug reactions and their interrelatedness. Knowledge of drug names, strength, dosage forms, generic equivalent and storage requirements. Knowledge of basic pharmacy compounding/dispensing. Knowledge of inventory control procedures and practices. Knowledge of state laws and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy. Skills: Skill in working in team environment and with public. Skill in data entry and basic computer usage. Skill in using analytical, problem solving, organizational and communication techniques. Abilities: Ability to analyze and interpret patient history and physician orders and to problem solve accurately. Ability to communicate professional knowledge to patients and staff in a user-friendly manner. Ability to make mathematical calculations to determine compounding and prescription amounts. Requirements Minimum Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. Minimum 3 years of related experience preferred. Valid Pharmacist license in the state of Indiana.
