We are looking for a Senior Thermodynamic Engineer. Serve as the technical authority for thermodynamic design in steam turbine systems. Lead efforts in optimizing energy distribution and flow characteristics while resolving complex thermal performance issues. Work in close partnership with aerodynamic engineers to align thermal performance with aerodynamic and mechanical design constraints, ensuring cohesive system integration across disciplines.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform advanced thermodynamic analyses focused on energy distribution, flow path shaping, and performance optimization within steam turbines Investigate and resolve flow-related thermal inefficiencies and instabilities in turbine systems Balance thermodynamic and mechanical design objectives to meet performance and durability requirements Collaborate cross-functionally with aerodynamic, acoustic, and structural engineers to ensure integrated system design Contribute to the development and validation of loss models for primary, secondary, and tertiary loss mechanisms Extensive background in the design and performance optimization of thermodynamic systems for turbines or turbomachinery Proficient in energy staging and flow path layout for both steam and gas turbines Skilled in applying 0D (lumped parameter), 1D (meanline), and 2D (throughflow) thermodynamic analysis techniques using either commercial software or internally developed tools Familiarity with steam as a working fluid and associated flow characteristics Experienced in addressing system-level flow behavior and improving efficiency across turbine stages Demonstrated ability to integrate thermodynamic performance within multidisciplinary design teams

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related technical field Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience Eligibility for security clearance Strong familiarity with thermal systems and their application within turbine environments Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and guide multidisciplinary teams Proficient with RANS-based CFD tools in support of thermodynamic evaluation Exposure to Navy Nuclear or defense-related engineering environments Capable of applying thermodynamic principles beyond steam flow paths, including rotating machinery systems Experience with seal and packing design, valve and exhaust hood analysis Knowledge of thermal-fluid interaction modeling and complementary CFD tools
