Required Degree:

Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, MD, DO, or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., education, counseling, medicine, public health, or related discipline). The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience:

Required: At least five years of progressive leadership experience in student affairs, medical education, higher education administration, or wellness programming Demonstrated experience in designing or overseeing programs focused on wellness and community building Deep commitment to the mission and aims of BYU and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a desire to foster spiritual growth and testimony in students Preferred:

Experience supporting professional or graduate students in healthcare fields Knowledge of accreditation requirements related to student services (e.g., LCME Element 12) Experience managing or collaborating with counseling, financial aid, or student life programs Record of scholarship or innovation in student wellness, well-being, or education Demonstrated understanding of challenges faced by medical students and their families Job Summary:

The Associate Dean (AD) of Student Experience and Well-being at the Brigham Young University (BYU) School of Medicine (SoM) will provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of medical student life outside of the classroom. This individual will oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs that support student wellness, financial well-being, spiritual growth, personal development, and social belonging throughout the duration of medical school.

As a member of the SoM's leadership team, the AD will work closely with the Dean, Senior AD, and other Associate and Assistant Deans to ensure a holistic, student-centered approach to medical education. The ideal candidate will be passionate about building community among students and their families, grounded in gospel-centered mentorship, and committed to fostering a spiritually enriching environment where students can deepen their testimonies of Jesus Christ while preparing for a lifetime of service as Christ-centered physicians.

Duties/Expectations:

Key Areas of Oversight

Student Support Services: Oversees medical student academic advising, wellness programming, academic support, accommodations, and career planning in coordination with faculty and administrative leaders. Financial Aid and Debt Counseling: Works closely with the university and external partners to ensure students have access to accurate, timely, and financial aid and debt management resources. Counseling and Mental Health Services: Collaborates with BYU and third-party mental health resources to ensure students have access to high-quality, confidential, and culturally aligned counseling services. Learning Communities and Social Belonging: Oversees the implementation of student learning communities, including their leadership structure, programming, and connection to faculty mentors. Fosters a sense of belonging and peer support. Special Interest Groups and Student Organizations: Supports student-driven engagement in areas of clinical interest, service, professional identity, and extracurricular enrichment, aligning with institutional values. Well-being and Spiritual Development Events: Coordinates events and traditions that promote well-being, family involvement, social connection, and spiritual growth-such as spouse and family gatherings, devotional events, testimony meetings, service retreats, and holiday traditions. Local Service Opportunities: Leads or supports coordination of service experiences in the local community that align with the school's mission and help students minister as disciples of Christ. Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for student experience and well-being, in alignment with BYU's mission and the SoM's spiritual and academic goals Collaborate across academic and administrative units to ensure student-centered, gospel-aligned services Supervise and support professional staff across the dimensions of wellness, counseling, financial aid, and learning communities Foster an environment where students feel supported emotionally, spiritually, socially, and academically Regularly assess student needs, gather feedback, and use data to improve programming and services Serve as an advocate for students in school-wide policies, culture, and decisions Collaborate with appropriate SoM leadership to support students across the continuum Engage with faculty, staff, and students to ensure access to support services
