The newly created Department of Cyber Security at Harper College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will make sure we are covering the theoretical and practical applications of the newly developed Cyber Security department, while also focusing on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our student's educational experience. Other departmental responsibilities may include promoting programs to district high schools and assisting with program outreach and recruitment. Candidates should possess expertise in cyber security management.

Responsibilities

The position involves assisting in curricula development, teaching the theory and practice of cyber security, including security of computing and networking devices, cryptography, hardware and software security, cloud security, usability of security, forensics, event remediation, security policy development, vulnerability assessment, impact analysis and Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery. The successful candidate should also be able to guide students through implementing security best practices by using security frameworks including, ISO,NIST, COBIT, CIS. You must have extensive knowledge of the subject matter and relevant topics and issues in the teaching discipline. You must also be able to create an effective learning environment that promotes and enhances the critical thinking and problem-solving abilities of our students.

Essential Duties: Assist in the development of curricula and syllabi for the department Assist in the selection of software, equipment, and instructional materials Assist in recruiting for the program by providing communication about activities and events that will assist recruiting potential students Assists in the development of print and digital marketing materials Maintain a positive, working relationship community and industry partners Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs Work diligently to maximize student placements in this field or related fields Maintains good communication with Dean, Program Director, colleagues, industry partners and students Knowledge and familiarity with technology and software including computers, and web-based sources such as blackboard Assists in the development of student internship opportunities Deliver learner-centered instruction at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs and meet student data reporting deadlines Other duties as assigned

Schedule Information:

This position teaches a standard load of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester (30 credits per academic year). This may include release time to be given for chair/coordinator duties. Classes may be offered in day, evening, and/or online modalities. Instructors are also expected to hold weekly office hours on campus to be available for student support.

Weeks per fiscal year:

Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August thru May)

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science or a closely related field and a minimum of three years of experience in Cyber Security. Classroom Teaching and/or training Experience.

Preferred Requirements:

Master's degree in cybersecurity, computer science or related field. Experience classroom teaching and/or training, and a minimum of 5 years of industry experience.

Security+, CISSP, CISM, CISA industry certifications preferred

In-depth knowledge of:

• Network administration, network infrastructure

• Network security design principles

• Implementation and management of information security systems and practices

Functional knowledge of:

• Network design and architecture

• Information systems design and architecture

• Virtualization, including cloud technologies
