Description: Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Certification Engineer (DER) provides engineering approval and certification support for aircraft modifications, repairs, and product development programs in accordance with FAA regulations. This position is responsible for ensuring engineering data, test results, and substantiation reports comply with applicable regulations, policies, and guidance materials. As a Designated Engineering Representative, the DER exercises delegated authority from the FAA to approve data on behalf of the Administrator, supporting Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs), Parts Manufacturer Approvals (PMAs), and Repair Approvals. The role requires close coordination with engineering, quality, compliance, and program management teams to deliver safe, compliant, and certifiable solutions for customers.

Primary Responsibilities: • Review, evaluate, and approve engineering data and substantiation packages in accordance with FAA regulations and guidance. • Act as an authorized FAA DER in assigned disciplines (e.g., Structures, Systems and Equipment, Electrical, Powerplant). • Prepare and approve certification reports, test plans, and compliance documentation. • Provide technical guidance to engineering teams during design and development to ensure certifiability of modifications and components. • Interface directly with the FAA, EASA, and other regulatory authorities regarding certification projects. • Participate in conformity inspections, witnessing of tests, and regulatory compliance activities. • Support the development and approval of Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs), PMAs, and major repairs or alterations. • Ensure certification activities comply with FAR Part 21, Part 25, Part 43, and other applicable regulations. • Collaborate with quality and compliance teams to prepare and support FAA and customer audits. • Maintain detailed records of approved data, test results, and certification activities. • Mentor engineers and provide training on certification requirements, policies, and procedures. • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. • FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) delegation in appropriate discipline(s) (required). • Minimum 10 years of experience in aircraft certification, engineering, or related aerospace field. • Strong knowledge of FAA and EASA certification processes, including STCs, PMAs, and major repair approvals. • Experience preparing and reviewing compliance data, reports, and substantiation documentation. • Proficiency in engineering tools and analysis methods relevant to area of delegation (e.g., structural analysis, electrical loads, systems testing). • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and regulatory compliance. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with regulators, customers, and internal teams. • Ability to manage multiple certification projects under tight deadlines. • Familiarity with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality management systems.

Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of computers and related software. Proven ability to manage independent projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Convey a positive and professional attitude towards staff members, clients and vendors. Punctuality expected and overtime hours as necessary. Ability to communicate in an assertive yet professional, motivating and tactful manner. Must be an effective communicator both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently and cross-functionally. Strong time-management and organizational skills. Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Must be willing to work a specific region and possibly relocate to service that region. Must submit to and pass pre-employment drug testing. Must be able to pass TSA/CVG background check to obtain and maintain TSA/CVG badging.
