Job Description Avery Dennison Smartrac is seeking an Electronics Manufacturing Development Engineer to join the RFID Platform Innovation Team in Asheville/Fletcher, North Carolina. The Platform Innovation Team is responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing proprietary products, processes and equipment for our manufacturing plants worldwide. This position is a hands-on role with the responsibility to design, develop, and optimize the processes, materials and equipment needed to produce roll to roll electronic products efficiently and at high quality. The position involves collaborating with design teams, implementing manufacturing processes for both prototypes and high-volume production, providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback, and ensuring that production lines are effective, reliable, and meet quality standards for various electronic devices and components.

Responsibilities

Lead development, qualification and commercialization of new processes and products through hands-on approach

Process Development & Deployment: Design and implement new manufacturing processes and techniques for cutting-edge products, focusing on quality, cost, and speed.

Equipment Design & Commercialization: Develop, procure, qualify, and deploy manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and tooling required for production.

Materials & Design for Manufactruability: Work with product design teams to select and develop materials and provide guidance for manufacturability, yield, and process efficiency.

High-Volume Production: Ramp up production lines to meet volume targets, ensuring optimal cycle times, availability, and quality.

Quality & Validation: Characterize, validate, and document new processes and equipment to ensure high product quality and reliability.

Continuous Improvement: Drive ongoing improvements through data-driven decision-making, lean manufacturing principles, and problem-solving methodologies.

Documentation & Training: Create work instructions and provide training to technicians and operators for new or optimized processes.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

Qualifications 8+ years of relevant experience with high speed electronics manufacturing

Bachelor's Degree in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing or chemical engineering

A strong understanding of electronics, assembly techniques (soldering, joining, fastening), testing, and quality control.

The ability to tackle complex issues, perform process analysis, and use tools like Design of Experiments (DOE) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

Experience in motion control: specifying, integrating and tuning a broad range of systems including high-speed servos, robotics, transducers, and high speed machine vision systems

Direct experience in design, integration and validation of controls in high volume automated process equipment for high precision assemblies and test equipment.

Capable of taking a project from concept through commercialization and understanding machine qualification including repeatability and reproducibility.

Experience leading or working within cross-functional teams to achieve goals.

Preferred experience with roll to roll manufacturing

Preferred experience in RFID, Bluetooth and/or semiconductor manufacturing

Global travel will be required, up to 25%
