PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Install, maintain, and repair locks, key systems, and door hardware.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High School diploma or GED

Valid Drivers License

Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) by Associated Locksmiths of

America is preferred by not required.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Working knowledge and practical application of the building trade

Operate hand and power tools

Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in installing, maintaining, and repairing locks, key systems, and door hardware, along with other building utility needs.

Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures.

Repair of door hardware and related specialties including door jams, windows, etc.

Experience:

One year of related experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Support the educational goals of the district. Interprets Master Keying Guide; uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the university's master key system while meeting customer requests. Installs, services, and repairs various types of locks and security devices. Installs and repairs door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures. Disassembles locks; repairs and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts. Cuts new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification. Issues keys and maintains records of keys issued and returned. Assist with the maintenance and inventory of district supplies of hardware and materials. Acquire new skills and training to meet changing requirements. Select material and hardware and prepare time and materials estimates. Coordinate with outside contractors and architects to expedite district projects. Work with other maintenance employees on joint projects or repairs. Confer on the modifications and repair of district facilities and equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on doors and hardware as well as jams and windows. Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule. Able to work possible nights and weekends / call-outs as needed. Comply with district and departmental policies and procedures. Follow district policy concerning uniforms. Must be able to perform all responsibilities and duties of the job. Perform other duties and maintenance activities as assigned by the Director of Maintenance & Construction.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Hand tools, ladders, hydraulic lift, wheelbarrow, hand truck, drill press, electric saw, electric drills, table saw, sander and planer, operate motor vehicle

Verbal and written communication skills; perform under emergency conditions; maintain control in stressful situations; coordinate completion of several work orders/tasks simultaneously; demonstrate skill in a variety of related mechanical areas

Physical Demands:

Climbing, climbing ladders/scaffolds, heavy lifting, crawling, facilitate laborious tasks, (i.e. drilling, sawing, hammering and digging, driving, walking, balancing)

Environmental factors:

Exposure to extremes of heat and cold; sunlight exposure; exposure to dusts; working around machinery with moving parts; slippery, uneven surfaces
