JOB SUMMARY

Assists the Senior Manager, SSI Community Partnership Grant (MAS) in HISD to implement a program to increase the number of male HISD students who successfully attend and graduate from high schools with a focus on college or career readiness. Delivers SSI Community Partnership Grant (MAS) Miles Ahead Scholars program to male HISD students and works directly with students, parents, and school personnel to ensure that the goals of the program are met. Coordinates various MAS Project events and summer programs that supplement school-year programming.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Creates, organizes, orchestrates, monitors, and prepares plans/programmatic strategies for school campus/MAS Projects in the execution of major projects and various district and community initiatives. Assists the Senior Manager, SSI Community Partnership Grant (MAS) in departmental financial activity, including quarterly and annual closeouts. Promotes the MAS Project at school sites and leads student recruitment for designated populations. Monitors implementation, provides programmatic adjustments, and coordinates resources to ensure successful completion of projects. Provides support and individualized assistance to students in the program throughout the graduation process. Provides academic and leadership supports to improve student performance (academics and behavior). Oversees the collection and presentation of performance and tracking data for SSI Community Partnership Grant (MAS) projects directly under manager supervision. Manages the implementation of research-based strategies that support student learning including the coordination and delivery of summer programming, including special presentations college and career supports, and leadership training workshops. Creates reporting systems to regularly communicate progress to stakeholders and disseminate information on programs to families and community members. Collaborates with managers in other departmental duties assigned to collaborate with teams to design, evaluate, and enhance programming and curriculum. EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

3 to 5 years Leadership experience in an academic setting; classroom/school-based experience and/or community outreach experience working with diverse populations

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Microsoft Office, Chancery Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier) Excellent organizational, communication, and engagement competencies Bilingual (Spanish) skills preferred

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Level 2 - Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

Participates in assisting senior manager in budget development.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.

Decisions have moderate impact to the facility/department or division, causing increased satisfaction or dissatisfaction; producing efficiencies or delays; promoting or inhibiting personal intellectual or professional development; and/or contributing to financial gain or expense. Errors may be serious, usually not subject to direct verification or check, causing losses such as improper cost calculations, overpayment or improper utilization of labor, materials or equipment. Regularly assesses and diffuses complex, and escalated customer issues. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for solving systemic customer service problems. Regularly explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer within HISD's policies and guidelines.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
