POLICY STATEMENT

The Secondary Assistant Principal is directly responsible to the Secondary School Principal's with support to the overall secondary programs throughout the district. With their approval, the assistant principal is responsible for all aspects involved in the operation of the Secondary School level, including the educational programs, finances, personnel (students, instructional and non-instructional), public relations, all curricular and co-curricular student activities, food services, health services and building maintenance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum/Instruction 1. Collect and report data relating to student achievement and curricular initiatives to assist in guiding daily instruction. 2. Assist the Principals in providing an appropriate instructional schedule for each student. 3. Develop consistent support programs both during and after school hours that support learning and student achievement.

Student Services 1. Directly manage the high school or middle school discipline system. 2. Supervise the disciplining of students whose behavior patterns and practices are in violation of the school regulations or are harmful to the morals, safety, or reputation of others. 3. Oversee student attendance and enforce Pennsylvania Compulsory Attendance Laws. Utilize the Home and School Visitor when dealing with truancy issues. 4. Assist with the supervision of the building special education program as specified by the District and State guidelines, to include acting as the LEA in student IEP's/MDE's and re-evaluations. 5. Member of the District threat assessment team.

Supervisory/Personnel 1. Provide administrative supervision for the whole secondary campus staff as well as instructional leadership for the teachers. This supervision should focus on the parameters set forth in the District's Plan for Professional Growth. This evaluation of professional and support personnel should clarify expectations, correct deficiencies, and encourage professional growth. 2. Assist the Principals in maintaining liaison with the various disciplines that are included in the instructional program and the professional staff. 3. Work in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent, and the Director of Student Services in providing continual opportunities for the professional development of staff. 4. Assist in the assignment of substitute teachers from the District's approved list.

Administration 1. Report immediately to the principal any happenings of a serious or unusual nature. 2. Participate as a member of building level and district committees. 3. Assist the Principals with the inspection of all buildings and grounds and make necessary recommendations to custodial/maintenance staff. 4. Monitor bus evacuation drills, fire drills, and emergency drills. 5. Take an active interest in professional organizations and promote professional improvement. 6. Attend extracurricular evening events in support of the overall student body. 7. Attend school board meetings as requested by the principal and/or Superintendent of Schools.

Building Supervision 1. Assist the Principals in the proper supervision and operation of the building. 2. Assume the responsibility for the proper supervision and operation of the building in the absence of the Middle or High School principal. 3. Develop, maintain, and coordinate the annual revision of the high school student handbook and faculty handbook.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities 1. Perform other duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

A. Master's Degree B. Pennsylvania Principal's Certification C. 5-7 years of experience with minimum of 5 years successful satisfactory years in education D. Valid Driver's License

Physical Demands: Constant bending, twisting, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Constantly alternating between sitting and standing. Normally does not work at heights above ten feet. Normally does not lift any object weighing more than fifty pounds

Sensory Abilities: Visual acuity Auditory acuity

Work Environment: Typical administrative office and school environment. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Occasional travel to off-site environments.

Temperament: Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions. Able to make judgments and work under high levels of stress.

Specific Skills: Ability to operate office equipment. Ability to use computer technology efficiently including word processing, presentation/webpage software, PowerPoint and Excel software applications. Ability to appropriately handle confidential information in accordance with District policies. Ability to use technology for group meetings, presentations (i.e. overhead, document camera, projector and video equipment).
