GIS and Geospatial Data Intern

in our

Reno, NV, Oakland, Walnut Creek or Davis, CA

office. This part-time, limited-term internship (10-20 hrs/week for 13-15 weeks) is designed to give students hands-on experience supporting environmental consulting projects. Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, curious, and excited to apply spatial data tools to complex environmental problems. The position offers the potential to extend across future semesters or transition to full-time employment. The intern will work closely with our IMAG (Information Management and Graphics) team, contributing to project work across

contaminated site investigation, groundwater remediation, mining, and water resources . We are looking for candidates with experience in

ArcGIS Pro ,

ArcMap ,

ArcGIS Online (AGOL) , and

relational databases , as well as scripting experience in

Python

and/or

SQL . This position will primarily take place in-person in one of the Geosyntec regional offices, and occasionally telecommuting may be allowed; candidates must coordinate their own transportation when reporting in person. Use ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, and ArcGIS Online (AGOL) to support routine and advanced mapping tasks;

Assist in the creation, maintenance, and use of geodatabases for environmental projects; Use Survey123, Field Maps, or other ESRI field apps for field data form creation and QA/QC support; Assist with collecting and managing GPS data using commercial-grade GPS equipment (e.g., EOS Arrow Gold); Write or apply Python scripts, SQL queries, and/or VBA tools to automate GIS/database workflows; Maintain and troubleshoot relational databases using platforms such as MS Access, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and/or EQuIS; Create professional, publication-ready maps, dashboards, web maps, and data visualizations; Work with staff to understand project-specific GIS and data needs, and recommend efficient solutions; Help assess internal GIS needs across the office and propose enhancements or training opportunities; Participate in routine QA/QC of environmental datasets to ensure quality and consistency; and Support legacy workflows (figure prep, Excel data formatting, cross-tool compatibility). Education and Licensure

Currently registered in a Bachelor's or Master's university degree program in a relevant technical discipline ( geography ,

environmental science ,

geology ,

engineering ,

GIS ) or a related field. (required) Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Familiarity with

ESRI software , including:

ArcGIS Pro ArcMap ArcGIS Online (AGOL)

Experience working with

relational databases

(e.g., MS Access, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, EQuIS) (required) Strong understanding of

cartographic principles

and map layout design. (required) Excellent

web map development

(e.g., using AGOL, Geocortex, or similar tools) Interest in supporting

environmental data workflows

for contaminated site investigation, remediation, mining, or water resources Portfolio or examples of past

GIS/data visualization work

(optional but encouraged) This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.
