Position Overview
Title: Streets & Drainage Technician I Department: Public Works Status: Full-Time FLSA: Non-Exempt
POSITION OVERVIEW Under general supervision, the Streets & Drainage Technician I performs highly skilled construction and maintenance work in one or more specialized programs in the public works department, incorporating standard construction and maintenance techniques to produce a finished product to required standards. Work includes street reconstruction/ rehabilitation, surface maintenance, traffic control set up, drainage, right of way maintenance, alley maintenance, or other miscellaneous customer service request (CSR)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES Performs general road maintenance/manual labor as required. Cuts brush, tree-trims, and mows grass Mixes concrete, seals cracks, and erects fences Builds type III barricades, repairs and installs guard rails Cleans drainage ditches, picks up trash, and places hot or cold asphalt mix. Performs traffic control set up at the job site to ensure a safe working environment Places and gathers cones, flags, set out traffic signs, etc. Assists during emergency situations such as floods, severe weather, and accidents. Sands bridges, places and maintains warning signs, and sets up barricades. Cuts up fallen trees, and assists the public. Performs preventive equipment maintenance, minor maintenance and repair to ensure proper operating conditions prior to leaving for the job site (check oil, water, fuel, tires, hydraulic system, etc.) Makes appropriate adjustments prior to leaving for the job site reporting any malfunctions and repair requirements to the supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of street maintenance work, which involves the operation and maintenance of light equipment/motorized vehicles. Skill in the proper operation and maintenance of a variety of light equipment, hand tools, and two-way radios, using proper safety practices in the operation of all equipment and hand tools. Ability to learn the Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices I (TMUTCD) provisions, as it relates to the job. Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to produce finished quality maintenance repair with minimum rework. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other employees. EDUCATION, LICENCES, CERTIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED equivalent Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and be eligible for coverage under the City of Hutto vehicle insurance provider One (1) year experience A Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL), highly preferred, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hiring
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Continuous outdoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards, occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying up to 50 pounds, lifting up to 50 pounds client/customer contact, indoor activity, exposure to electrical hazards, explosive hazards, biological hazards, dust mites hazards.
