Senior Preconstruction Engineer
Location: Janesville, WI
Company Overview: A respected and well-established general contractor in the Janesville market is seeking a
Senior Preconstruction Engineer
to join its growing team. This company delivers high-quality, ground-up projects across healthcare, education, civic, and commercial sectors, with a strong reputation for collaboration, safety, and technical excellence. Responsibilities: Lead preconstruction activities for assigned projects, from conceptual budgeting to detailed estimates
Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to develop accurate and competitive budgets
Manage subcontractor outreach and analyze proposals to ensure scope completeness and cost accuracy
Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, pricing, and cost models
Provide value engineering ideas and constructability recommendations
Assist with developing schedules and logistics plans during preconstruction
Mentor junior preconstruction staff and support their professional growth
Help refine internal processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
5+ years of preconstruction or estimating experience in commercial construction
Proven success working on ground-up projects in healthcare, education, or other commercial sectors
Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing
Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with design teams, owners, and internal stakeholders
Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
