Job Title
Under limited supervision, performs general planning and land use functions for the Department including reviewing building permits, business licenses, subdivision projects, and zoning verification letters; provides information to the public regarding zoning and development; coordinates activities in the receipt, investigation, and enforcement of County Land Use and Development code; and performs technical planning and zoning related functions and duties as assigned. Provides professional and accurate information to the public, elected and appointed officials. Performs all functions of processing and review of a variety of land use applications and coordinates with the Development Review Committee (DRC). Reviews other permit or license applications for compliance with County regulations. Meet regularly with developers, the public, and other departments. Prepares staff reports, presentations, and other findings to staff, Boards and Commissions, and the County Council. Provides technical assistance regarding planning activities including, but not limited to, researching best practices, gathering technical data, and providing analysis of existing and potential policies. Perform field inspections of development projects and document inspection. Maintain records, file reports, communicate orally and in writing. Assist in community outreach on issues relating to community development. Review citizen complaints regarding code compliance. Prepare accurate case files, including establishment of legal owner, and other information necessary to conduct investigation and enforcement action. Coordinate the conduct of follow-up procedures including the preparation of additional correspondence, site visits, communication with complainants, attorneys, and property owners involved in code violation cases. Confers with staff and officials to clarify interpretation of the law and procedures to be followed. Prepares proposals for amendments to county ordinances or policies. Provide mentoring and work direction to other department planners and staff. May schedule and conduct meetings with advisory boards and officials
