Role - Sr. SAN Engineer (20 Hours/Wk)
Position Summary:
Seeking an experienced Senior SAN Engineer to lead the design, deployment, and administration of enterprise storage infrastructure. This role requires deep expertise in Dell EMC storage systems, Cisco SAN networking, and storage protocol optimization (FC/FCoE/iSCSI). The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting mission-critical data center operations, infrastructure modernization, and cross-team collaboration in a regulated, high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Storage System Management:
Administer, configure, and optimize Dell PowerMax, PowerStore, and PowerScale (Isilon) storage platforms. Manage replication and snapshot technologies including SRDF, SnapshotVX, SnapshotIQ, and SyncIQ. Ensure data availability, performance, and integrity across all SAN environments.
Storage Networking:
Maintain and troubleshoot Cisco MDS and Nexus SAN fabrics (FC/FCoE/iSCSI), including zoning, VSANs, and switch security hardening. Plan and execute protocol migration from FCoE to iSCSI as part of infrastructure modernization. Analyze logs and perform diagnostics using Cisco and Dell platforms.
System Integration & Support:
Provide consultation to DPSCS IT teams on storage provisioning, data protection, and lifecycle management. Integrate storage with enterprise operating systems including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Windows, IBM AIX/VIO, Red Hat, and SUSE Linux.
Project Leadership & Modernization:
Lead complex data migrations and upgrades, including migration from legacy systems to PowerMax 2500 using tools like ORS, NDM, SRDF, and SvMotion. Support deployment and integration of software tools and utilities for Dell PowerMax.
Monitoring, Automation & Documentation:
Conduct system health checks, capacity planning, and performance tuning. Automate tasks using SymCLI and other scripting tools. Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including Visio diagrams and change logs.
Collaboration & Incident Response:
Work closely with internal teams and vendors on storage strategies and implementations. Respond promptly to incidents and lead root cause analysis for storage-related issues. Support enterprise applications and advise on complex storage and infrastructure challenges.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Minimum Associate Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
Certifications (Required/Preferred):
Cisco CCNA (Required) Cisco CCNP (Required) Cisco Data Center Storage Networking Design Specialist DELL Technologies Information Storage and Management (ISM) Dell Certified Server Professional (DCP) or Dell EMC Proven Professional Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
Experience:
10+ years of experience with enterprise-grade Dell EMC storage systems. 10+ years managing Cisco SAN switches and storage networking (FC, FCoE, iSCSI). Extensive experience in data migration, replication, protection, and SAN optimization.
Technical Competencies:
Deep knowledge of SAN administration, switch zoning, security hardening, and troubleshooting. Proficient in analyzing diagnostic data from Cisco MDS/Nexus, Dell storage systems, and VMware vCenter/ESXi. Strong scripting skills (e.g., SymCLI) for automation and systems management. Experience managing multi-platform enterprise environments and mission-critical storage systems.
