ASCP Certified HIM Technician | Scanner & ROI Specialist

Join a dedicated Health Information Management team as a part-time HIM Technician specializing in scanning and Release of Information (ROI) functions. This role involves reconciling patient records by preparing and scanning documentation in accordance with established policies to ensure timely processing. You will perform routine ROI tasks, including retrieving electronic and paper health records, verifying requests comply with federal, state, and agency regulations, and managing all aspects of information release.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect and reconcile medical records and loose documents from nursing and ancillary departments to ensure timely processing of discharged records. Follow up with departments to locate missing records. Prepare and scan medical records and documents, performing quality reviews to ensure accurate indexing and image clarity in electronic health records. Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA privacy and security regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI). Process all release of information requests from patients, physicians, insurance companies, auditors, attorneys, and others, including subpoenas and court orders. Communicate with requestors to clarify authorization requirements for non-compliant requests. Input and track release requests in ROI software and scan requests into patient records. Alert leadership to unusual or suspicious requests. Provide front desk support for the department, including answering phones and assisting visitors. Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives and maintain productivity standards. Assist in other departmental areas as needed. Education and Experience:
Post-high school education or at least 2 years of experience in Health Information or related health fields. Office experience involving public interaction is required. Associate degree preferred. Previous experience in release of information functions and medical records preferred. Skills and Requirements:
Basic keyboarding, filing, and computer skills. Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain confidentiality of PHI. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently or as part of a team. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to resolving issues. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Preferred Certifications:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credentials are a plus but not required.
