Dispatcher

The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating all dispatch operations consisting of booking trip requests, managing daily driver manifest, initiating and responding to radio calls. Manages the daily dispatch schedule; confirms scheduled ride and manipulates pick up times based on dispatch needs. Maintains daily operations of drivers by initiating and responding to radio calls from van and sedan operators and maintenance personnel. Provides route information and operation procedures to drivers, including fare collection fee. Answers multi phone line and responds to questions regarding transportation needs. Refers to appropriate agencies. Responds to clients same day ride requests, resolves ride concerns, and adjusts schedules. Accurately inputs, verifies and authorizes client trip requests using RouteMatch dispatching and scheduling software. Verifies client eligibility each time a ride is booked, verifies accuracy of ride for correct billing. Coordinates with various community agencies, nursing homes and local hospitals to arrange transportation for clients and senior meals. Assists with customer issues, coordinates with the Customer Service Supervisor and Driver Supervisor to determine solutions. Other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Proficient in understanding city bus schedules and the Chittenden County routes. Proficient in reading and understanding rules, regulations, laws, and being able to explain them to clients. Proficient in utilizing computers and programs such as Microsoft Suite. Proficient in communication; both orally and in writing with all levels of personnel. Proficient in understanding both oral and written instructions. Proficient in time management and the ability to work independently. Proficient in working effectively with others. Qualifications: Special Services Transportation Agnecy High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of 6 months of customer service experience is required. Dispatch experience is preferred. A valid Drivers License is required. The ability to pass a thorough background check to work with a vulnerable population is required. Ability to pass pre-employment drug & alcohol testing and the ability to continue to adhere to SSTAs Drug & Alcohol Policy is required. Working Environment: Typically working in a faced-paced environment, sometimes under extreme pressure, with heavy workloads and deadlines. The shop includes facilities equipment which results in loud, pungent smells, and hazardous conditions. Some travel within the state will be required.
