Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of survivors of domestic violence? Laurel House is seeking a compassionate, motivated
Shelter Advocate
to join our team. In this role, you will provide direct support, counseling, and advocacy to adults and their children residing in our Safe Haven Center shelter. You'll also play an important role in fostering a safe, welcoming environment and representing Laurel House in the community.
This is a
full-time position (Monday–Friday)
offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day.
What You'll Do
Provide individual counseling, options counseling, and advocacy to clients in shelter.
Support hotline callers with crisis counseling, safety planning, referrals, and resources.
Help residents with goal planning, domestic violence education, and safety strategies.
Ensure shelter security, safety, and a supportive environment for residents and children.
Facilitate group programming with colleagues to build community and promote healing.
Participate in community outreach and represent Laurel House at events.
Collaborate closely with the Shelter Manager and counseling team to meet client needs.
What We're Looking For
Experience supporting survivors of domestic violence, trauma, or crisis response (preferred).
Ability to de-escalate, problem-solve, and respond effectively in challenging situations.
Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and working respectfully with marginalized populations.
Bachelor's degree in social services or related field
preferred ; equivalent experience considered.
Residential/shelter experience
preferred .
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish and/or ASL)
a plus .
Detail-oriented, organized, and proficient in Microsoft Office.
